Hello,
I recently came to Canada on a work permit in May 2008. I work as a postdoctoral fellow at a research institute. I´ve been meaning to apply for permanent residence on my own but I´m also getting married soon to a graduate student who just landed last week. He says that if he sponsors me for PR it would be quicker than me applying on my own. On the other hand I´ve heard that spousal sponsorship from within Canada can be time consuming and can require that we prove our relationship given that I just got my divorce decree from a previous marriage in October, 2008.
So basically my question is: is it safer and quicker if I apply on my own as a skilled worker since I´ve been here almost a year or shall I apply as a spouse being sponsored by a recently landed immigrant?
Any advice is appreciated.
