Hi All,
I am a citizen of India. I have done my B.Tech (Bachelor Of Technology) in Computer Science Engineering. Presently i am working as a Software Engineer in a reputed IT firm and i have 2.5 years of work experience in this field.
My work involves developing web as well as windows based applications using various Microsoft technologies. The key technologies i work on include .NET (ASP.NET 3.5, C# 3.0), WPF, WCF, Web Services, AJAX and MS SQL Server.
I wish to take up a 1 year postgraduate degree course to further my studies in these technologies. But i couldn´t find many colleges in Canada offering IT related postgraduate courses(in the areas of web development etc.). Does it mean that Software professionals are not much in demand in Canada?
Can someone tell about the Humber college in Canada? Is it worth studying there? I could find some course related to my work there.
Also please tell me about the job prospects for Software professionals in Canada.
Or should i take up some management related course instead of Software if the prospects are not that bright for IT in Canada?
Please advice.
Thanks & Regards,
Adi

(in reply to: Job Prospects for IT professionals in Canada) Adi, nobody is answering your question because it is impossible to answer! Canada is huge. Toronto is like another country compared to Montreal, Calgary or Vancouver.
In case you were not aware, the world is in recession and the latest unemployment rates are around 8% in Canada. that means some places are higher and some are lower.
Job prospects for ANY skill are limited at the moment. You have to be good at what you do and you need to be willing to compete- and win against people with Canadian experience.
I would assume Humber is the equivelant to the British Columbia Institute of Technology. (BCIT) Decent school. Some programs are better than others... some graduates are more sought after than others.
IT is not listed on the current Want List from CIC (28 NOC codes) That should tell you something.

(in reply to: Job Prospects for IT professionals in Canada) 1. Presently, job prospects are not so great for most professionals in Canada. This is mainly due to recession. Once the recession gets over, you should be able to find a job, especially in IT.
2. Humber is a decent college, but it is not a university. You want a good education then at least try for universities. They have funding opportunities for graduate study which colleges do not. In the job market also, a degree from a university carries more weight than a college degree.
