Some of you are crying that Canada has no work and we are inviting you to our country under false pretenses.

In the Vancouver Sun Newspaper today there is a 28 page section called ´Working´. It is filled with advertisements for various companies and job postions. I will give you a sample.

electrical engineer; shift engineer; maintenance planner; manager of utilities; medical laboratory technologists; Industrial electricians; software and data architects; group underwriters; project manager; draftsperson; communications technologist; certified building inspector; legal counsel; accounts manager; sales representative; marine superintendent; terminal manager; clinical systems analyst; forcasting and financial analyst; marketing database analyst; occupational health nurse; recreational supervisor; maintenance operations supervisor; process engineer; senior estimator; transporation planning engineer; telephone adjuster; retail sales representative; health and safety advisor; heavy duty mechanic; payroll manager; IT coordinator; timber supply analyst; human resourses manager; manager of construction; rehabilitation coordinator....................................................................................blah, blah, blah.

Please do not ask me to forward info about all these listings. I will not do it. I have listed about 5% of what was in todays paper. I admit it was a special feature but it illstrates my point. Canada needs workers. Skilled workers. Workers that can communicate. The opportunity is out there - just make sure you are ready to take it.

If your communication skills are not good enough, like me, English for second language, it does need take time. Therefore, go back to college. I know in my Oriental culture, sometime people over certain age are hesitate to go back to school, Tell you the truth, my previous class, Bachelor of Tourism Management major in Recreation at Malaspina University-college. We have 30 students, only 10 people like my age, 20something. We have 8 people almost like 50 years something. They have kids family too.

For immigrants, cold call, no connection, I always think it doesn??t work. If you have good communication skill and confidence, you need connection, something like Co-op, Internship at post-secondary institution, HRDC funded project( I know it has too much paper work, just practice your reading skills ok?) Use those tools as your potential opportunities.

I found my job thru co-op education. Because I work 2 co-op at the exactly same place, Employer knows me well. This community is small. People know each other. I am not even a PR, I am English as a second language person, I got it. Why not you guys, you are Permanent Resident. You are qualified for tons of funded job and wage substitution!!!!!!!Not me guys!

Good posts,
the only issue is the canadian experience all the companies ask for, and if your profession is a regulated one, you´ll need to get your license from the corresponding body, and of course, the regulating body will ask you for one year of canadian experience working under the direct supervision of a licensed professional.
I agree with Sharon: there?s plenty of work in Canada. And I also agree with Yijie, it´s not easy, but it can be done
I hope the companies have a second thaught on this one year canadian experience, not that the don´t ask for the english profiency, no, but just to lower that one year.

Regards
