Subject: Dad in Canada 40 years stuck in Pakistan
My father is in his late 50s and moved to Canada when he was 17. He married and had 5 children including myself, and Canadian citizens. He has lived in Canada for more than 40 years and has visited his home country, Pakistan, a few times. He recently visited Pakistan again, but hasn´t been there since before 2002 and didn´t think he need a Permanent Residence Card this time around. All he has is his Pakistani passport and a Canadian Immigrant´s Record Card (which he has used in the past to return to Canada). A couple of days ago, the airline would not allow him to board his return flight as he has no PR card so he is now stuck in Pakistan. I really wish I planned his trip for him (I even printed out Canadian citizenship forms for him recently and he didn´t get around to it).

Does anyone know the quickest way to get him back home? He can apply for a one time PR travel document at the CHC in Islamabad by mail if I send him some documentation, but it seems like that this option is going to take a few months at the minimum. I want to pick the quickest route as Canada is really the only home he knows and this situation is causing a great deal of stress and anxiety for him.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Adam

I would suggest he contact the Canadian embassy in Pakistan. I don´t have a clue how to solve this one.

This is a good lesson for all of us.

Send him all the mail and envelopes you can find that is addressed to his address in Canada. Get anything that would show he has been residing in Canada like Cable Bills payments in Canada by debit cards etc. etc.

Have him go to the Canadian Embassy COUNSELOR entrance and ask politely for a single entry visa to return.

All will be fine.
