Hi, my wife and I are seriously considering moving to Canada and don´t exactly know where to start! I have a few wuestions maybe some of you can help. A skilled worker Visa looks our best bet. Does any one know the how easy it is and how long it takes to get one? What is the IT job market like at the moment? Any relavent site I could use to asses the current job situation? How easy is it to get a job in Canada before we arrive?

(in reply to: Moving to Canada!) How fast is the processes all depend on which office you will apply to?
General questions can be answered in this CIC sites
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/skilled/index.html
They have self-assessment tool too.

(in reply to: Moving to Canada!) if there is an International company with offices in Ireland and Canada you might have a chance that way of pre-approved employment. IT is competative but your areas of specialty will be very important. Your language skills should be to your advantage. www.canadait.com have a look.

(in reply to: Moving to Canada!) One thing you can consider is some call centre. Small towns like our Nanaimo, has lots of telecommunication centre. Help North American clients solving online-banking, technical support through phone. I have done those jobs when I was having my co-op. I think they basically hire everybody who has a little bid IT knowledge, because so many people quit. Those kinds of technical support telephone agents are quite common seen thru middle size cities. Just give you a mind.
If you have good communication skills and computer knowledge, those jobs, easy to apply and get accept.
