please help me clear something..and those who had the experience already please explain...
i will be landing in the coming weeks, i have a quebec selection, my understanding is that with the quebec selection i don´t need to show proof of funds, but does quebec or the immigration service in general require me to bring a certain amount of money to help me survive the first period...is it mandatory that i bring cash with me?
i will be staying with a relative and i have an account in the USA and can wuthdraw money anytime...so do i still need cash or bank statement..?

Yes, Quebec immigration require that you have at least $2,748 if you are single or $4,030 if married. You may take a quick look at page 2 of the latest financial self sufficiency form, available at http://www.immigration-quebec.gouv.qc.ca/publications/fr/dcs/D21.pdf

Bonne chance

Hey, to be on the safe side, and as numerous people have suggested in the past, it´s best practice to come with a traveler´s cheque of that amount in your name. You may be at risk of being denied entry if you can´t prove that you´ve got the money available to you and for your ´immediate use´.

A plus tard

i don´t have traveler´s checks...but i will definetly bring cash with me to be on the safe side and avoid any complication.
i found the "contrat d´autonomie financiere" that i have signed and back then it was less than the amount required now :)

yea by the way...was trying to remember this question...
it says that the immigration officer will ask me some questions...can anyoone tell what kind of questions is it?

Don´t know about Quebec landing but my questions at Pearson Airport:

1) Did anything changed in your status ?
2) Any mistake on the COPR to report ?
3) Any goods to follow ?
4) How much money do you have ?

After answering the questions, the officer smiled and said "welcome to Canada". Very good experience. Hopefully you will have the same good experience.

Bone chance pour la suite.

Anonymous, can you advise as to how long it took to get your PR? Mine is still in process. Got my CSQ in September 2008 and sent the federal application in November 2008. Thanks in advance for your response

thanx landed and charlo :)

to landed: thanx i think those are the same questions...it says the agent will ask questions to confirm the information provided in the application so i think it will be about the same thing. i hope i´ll have the same good experience as u did :)

to charlo: i got my CSQ in july of 07, then i followed with the federal application and documents...and i transfered my application from the Quebec bureau in New York to the immigration office in Paris and i gave them my address in my home country, i did not go through Buffalo at all.
so between then and the medical request, the mail was going through my home country and then to me in the US..and vice versa...so thats why it might seem like it took a while, plus there was a couple of time i did not fill the forms i received the proper way so they sent me back the documents to complete them...so that added to time it took...
in all i received the medical exam request in late august 08 i think, thats when i flew to my home country..
i did the medical in october, got the passport request after 5 months i guess and this week i finally got the visa.
one thing is they said on the medical request that it would take between 5 to 9 months...and it´s about right, gived i received the medical request in august and in march i got the passport request.

make sure u be ready to get the police report or FBI report (if u live in the states) as soon as they ask you for it (it must be less than 3 months old when they receive it)..they should indicate all this to you.
once u send them everything and there is nothing missing they will send you the medical exam request..and after that there is nothing else to do for u except sit back and relax .

it´s safe to mention also that the wait time depends on the office u sent ur application to, how fast they go...
also the the country u lived in and how easy the information is available to CIC when they conduct the background check, because the results of the medical exams should only take few days..not more than a month...so the rest of the wait time is due to the background check.

so for now just be ready to provide the documents they need, and make sure u fill the forms correctly to avoid any delays :) they soon should be asking u for police reports if they haven´t already...and in the coming months i think u´ll get the medical request...so just be patient and chill out...u got the CSQ and that´s something that will help a lot
