I was in this exact situation and I was the US girl moving to Canada.
She can not work anywhere until she is a landed immigrant (Permanent Resident) through your sponsorship. If you sponsor her outside Canada (i.e. before she moves) I hear the timeline can be 5-8 month. If she moves to Can on a visitor visa and you sponsor her, the timelines are much longer and she won´t have health coverage unless you buy it.
The CIC website really has a lot of good information.
Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck

How about some cash job, like waitress, if she is cute.
Even like some pizza man. paper boys. Actually in my small town, so many cash jobs.
You can just say you are from the states, need a job.
it´s easy for cute girls

Texas,

I feel that you were talking about me.
My husband is currently sponsoring me, and we´ve applied for the immigration In-Canada, it´s been 8 months already, we still don´t know when they will finish processing it. And I have living Toronto without a OHIP card. My husband never knew how painful to pay cash to the Dr. until he paid for me every time we go to the Dr. Too bad, i am pregnant too...... every cent has to come out of his pockets.

Sophie -

Wow, that´s really hard. When I lived in the US, my boyfriend told me about his cousin who married an American and she had been waiting around for months for the sponsorship to go through. I didn´t get it. In US if cousin married a Canadian the husband could get a temp green card right away, so he could work. They just make it more difficult to start off here.
On a positive note, while your husband is paying for the medical expenses he is paying much less than if you lived in the US without insurance. When I first moved here I fell down some stairs and cracked my tail bone. For an office visit, x-ray and drugs, I paid $65US. In the US, you would have paid easily $300-$400 US.

I know it´s hard to wait. I´ve been waiting almost 12 months for the Skilled Worker class. If you have already done your police clearances and medical, I would order caipsnotes. This may give you an idea of how close you are to being done. I was able to confirm they now have everything they need and they will be looking at my file again on Feb 2. I hope at that point to be getting my passport request. I have heard sponsorship is much faster than skilled worker, so hopefully, you will be done soon.

Good luck!!

Moving from US to Canada - needs advice (in reply to: moving from us to canada)
Hi I´m the American, my boyfriend is Canadian. We were going to live in Canada and apply from within. But coming into Canada the other day we were told we were going about it wrong. I am allowed to stay for about a month and than need to go back. I was told I need to apply through Buffalo.

The website confuses me and the call center - forget it. Can you tell me what I need to do. The website says my boyfriend sends everything in, even my stuff to Ontario. Immigration at the border said I need to go through Buffalo. Any idea which it is? Will my stuff go through Ontario with my boyfriend´s stuff and than Buffalo will contact me?

Also, Immigration couldn´t tell me if I could come up and stay another month. I need to make reservations on the boat to come up round trip and I´m worried they may or may not leave me on the boat. What have you been through with that?

I don´t know why they make things so hard. Neither one of us is ready for marriage. My first marriage wasn´t all that good, and neither was his. We get along great and have known each other two years. I have come for visits with my longest lasting four months.

I can´t stop crying and he keeps telling me things will work out. I really don´t want to go back to New Jersey, I´ll miss him sooo much.

Input, appreciated.

Thank you.
