PLEASE : Do not buy into this propaganda of how good of a country Canada is. Unless you come from Bangladesh or some other bad countries you should do your homework before moving here. Check the last studies made on how biased employers are towards Asian names.
Government will rip you off not just with taxes but also with getting your certifications recognized. Total waist of time and money.

Reality check: Look at the ethnic-owned businesses and see for yourself how many hire employees that are out of their race. Look at the Chinese businesses ... you rarely see non-Chinese working there. Same for East-Indian. We all have to educate and raise awareness against racism and discrimination within our own community before we start throwing allegations against others.

HI (in reply to: No Canada)

If u have the courage to loose everything and start all over again then come to Canada. Or if you have been harassed or are socially an outcast in your present system.. then come to Canada to start afresh.

Racialism and discrimination is everywhere and not limited to any color creed or country.

Canada is a land of immigrants for generations and no person is a judge of your situation than you my friend.

The economy or jobs are minor factors ...but the major is your decision to immigrate

my great, great grandparents came to Canada to escape the potato famine in Ireland - 1852. En route, 2 children died at sea. Both parents died within 2 weeks of landing... leaving 7 orphaned children, the oldest being 14. That oldest child was my great grandfather. He suvived by chopping wood for the local Stratford hotel furnace. We located 2 siblings through the Canada census. One girl became a servant at the age of 9 for an Ontario family. One of the boys - a farm hand. We have never been able to track down the others.

The history channel had a special a few weeks back called Canada or Death. It was very similar to the story of my family and very similar to the stories depicted in the link you have posted.

To anonymous:
What you mention is partly true but the majority of poeple in this country are not Asians os East Indians so the ones commiting the major discrimination are the caucasians.
What is really wrong in here is the level of hipocresy . I do not know if you were born in Canada but you sound as if you did were born and I understand that when people who are born here may or may have not experienced certain issues.I think that Canada is less accomodating than what canadians want to believe. I have lived in the US and Canada and I do not know if I was lucky in the US but americans I ran into are less racist that what the world say about them. Canadians I have run into are more racist than americans I happened to run into . And I have lived for several years in both countries. Now I am cosidering to move back to America because America is al will always be America...

What I can not understand is why so many thousands upon thousands apply every year to obtain Permanent Residence?

Why so many thousands seek protection by making a Refugee Claim in Canada every year?

Why so many thousands of failed refugee claimants do everything possible to remain in Canada?

They must be all wrong and you must be right BB.

so what´s the deal now?
should i come to Canada or shoul i reconsider?

for those who speak about racism, i think racism exists everywhere, remember people this is planet earth and not heaven.

racism in america does exist, but it´s not explicit and generally speaking immigrants live in lqrge mteropolitan areas where racism is not visible considering the ,ixture of races there...but deep in the red states i think the story would be different.

and who said canada is a perfect country and has no racism??? isin´ there a conservative party that has been trying to slow the flow of immigrants and not just because of the economic crisis.

in all i think experiences do vary from one individual to another, personal experiences greatly influence someone´s views and opinions on things. quite frankly i heard the positive feedback from relatives who have been in canada for many years, and the ngative feedback somehow heard it from those with short experience in canada...

the united states is a good country, but not perfect and neither is canada. i think having lowered expectations and being patient will help new immigrants avoid any ptential shock or disappointment.

The above statement is NOT true. Maybe you can provide links . But in engineering they have one of the easiest credential programs I´ve ever seen. If you are a new immigrant, the Ontario PEO will evaluate and translate your credentials for $0.

www.peo.on.ca/FCP/FCP1.html

This was one of the best surprises I had. I remember paying north of $1,000 in the US, as some of my education was in French and had to pay for translation, evaluation and exam fees. Let´s not talk about the time to do it. (1 year vs 2 months in Canada).

Maybe your experience is in another field but that sure doesn´t apply in mine.
