Subject: No Canada
I do not think that all those who seek refuge in Canada are wrog. That´s is not my point. The World is really ugly and at least Canada offers some kind of freedom and peace in comparison to other places. But for those high skilled immigrants who already have a decent living in their home countries is not worth to come in here.
But anyhow I will no break your dreams. I have not been to Canada for a short time. I am not trying to discredit the country or anything like that . Of course that has its good side but all what I am saying is that if you come from a really poor country i am sure that 8 dollar and hour will seem a fortune for you( this will only allow you to live under the poverty line within Canada as well), but of course being poor in here may look better than being poor in your country.
But for those who already had a decent standard of living is not worth it. If you want to take the chance go ahead.

this last message sounds more reasonable than the previous ones.

BB i was going to ask you why are you having this campaign against Canada and its standards of living directed at new immigrants...but it seems u felt that u were a little too negative about it

not all immigrants come necessarily from poor countries as u mentioned Bengladesh, there are poeple coming to north america from europe as well..and not just eastern europe, i´m talking about people from france, germany...etc
so the major reason for immigration might be economic but it´s not the only reason. and those who have already a "good life" in their home countries might want a better one and experience a new thing.

also being poor is being poor whether in Canada or other countries, being so close to something and be able to enjoy it is frustrating, i d´ont think poverty in Canada is "fun" but people do go to Canada to seek a better life not a poor one.

above all, it all depends on the personal experiences people will have. guess what, many people go the united states and don´t like it one bit, even though it´s the most powerful country in the world economically speaking...and freedom..and opportunity...and all that, but it´s just not the kind of life they expected and they just can´t keep up or adapt to the "american lifestyle"
so the same goes for canada and every other country out there.

sure things don´t look too good right now, but in few months or years i think things will look a bit rosy.

To all I am an Indian who worked for a nice company in US for 4 years, went back home to India, was a social outcast, now moved to Toronto as a student, between jobs, live close to Roy´s office.
To a certain extent Canadian are not racialist ..seriously, may be you just need some icebreakers with them and to start tell every white person you meet from today " its nice weather today(not if you living in Alberta), and see the difference.

The problem with Canada is lack of companies having long term sustainable advantages other than natural resources.

Sharon Hi you remember me I am the guy who argued about recession Starbucks jobs and the economy.

What about the death of Robert Diekanzky or Freddy ( the latino guy in Montreal). Police are feeling free to shoot racial mnorities and they are getting away with it.
EI :If speaking the truth makes me negative, I ´d rather being negative than hypocritical. We all know than any type of comment that goes agains the political, economic and corporate systems is going to be called "negative nowadays". That´s pure colonial manipulative thinking. Sorry to break your bubble.
There are statistics that prove that Canada is racist and New Immigrants have the worst piece of the pie.

I also must say that I do not think that being poor in Canada is the same as being poor in some other countries. Many other countries do not even have welfare for poor people. If you are from Cuba for example where people make 20 dollars a month, perhaps making 1300 dollars a month may make you feel a bit richer. In Canada you can find a lot of Mac Jobs. Many other countries do not even have that.
Yes people from Western Europe come in here because Canada makes them believe that they will have better opportnities. I do not think that they come looking for culture or to enjoy the lovely weather.

I wonder if there would be a 4 month public inquiry in other countries when someone tragically dies at the hands of police. I think not... but oh my... Canada is heartless and racist. Ironically, in the past 4 months the nationality or immmigration status of Mr. Dziekanski has very little impact on the concerns regarding his death.

I challenge anyone to find a country that would make more effort to sort out what went very wrong.

The unemployment in Canada is currently at 8% which by the way is not the correct figure - it just represents the percentage of people receiving employment insurance. At the same time 260,000 new immigrants are expected to come in 2009!!

You figure it out for yourself.

When I came in 2001 I scored 10 out of 10 under the occupation factor and it turned out that same year the country had thousands of professionals in my field competng for a single job! I would call this criminal negligence if not worse.

Now 8 years down the road I have no savings, no decent job, no house of my own and I do not think I am the only one in this boat.

But you guys keep on coming. Canada knows how to use your money, enthusiazm and labor!

cougar - what were you expecting to have in Canada? YOU applied to come - Canada did not come and beg you. You used you occupation to qualify- nowhere does the application guarantee you the opportunity to work in your field.

no savings, no decent job, no house of your own - thousands of Canadian nationals are in the same boat so what is your point.

what exactly did you expect and who is responsible for that?

Sharon,

If someone gets 10 points under the occupation factor this must mean their occupation is in demand in Canada. Why would you let more doctors or engineers in, if your own professionals are unemployed and facing stiff competition? (Just to get their life savings and then kick them out to offer their spot to new guys?)

What exactly does Canada have to offer those people? Industrial jobs at $7/hour? If you´re a refugee trying to save your life, it works just fine, if you are someone who already had a decent job, things are quite different.

By the way, I do have time to post here as I am unable to get even a basic $7/hour job this summer, I have to provide for 2 kids and I am sinking at 2,000/month.

So much for the comfort and peace of life here! Amin!
