Subject: Change of common-law status. Please help anyone.
My wife and I applied as common-law partners, but, later
got married. We have now got the visas and the landing
papers. The landing papers describes our relationship as
"common-law" rather than "married". Does this matter as we
are due to land soon?. If we need to send it back to be rectified, does anyone know if this is a lenghty process as
we´re making travel arrangements.
Please, please, please help. Any info will be much appreciated.

Many Thanks

Solution... (in reply to: Change of common-law status. Please help anyone.)
Well This is what a friend of mine did.

they were in a similar situation. well kind off.

What they did is that they got married while the application was going thru.

After getting the landed papers, once again they got married for the canadian records.

Now how does it make a difference if you were married here in canada or before. just come here and get things straigntened here.

Do not revel that you got married earlier. Well My friends were like. they didnt have any baby so it was oke for them land here and get married.

Hope it helps.

Technially and legally you must tell CIC of your change in marital status, and send them a copy of your marriage certificate. And yes it might hold up the processing.

IF you land and go through immigration, and someone spots a wedding ring and asks if you´re married, and you reply that yes you are - you could lose your PR status - or be arrested for fraud - as your marital status is no longer the same as stated on the visa.
