Subject: Does Union or Political activty prevent PR? |

I will be applying for PR in less than a year. I have been acquiring documents, reading posts on this site, visiting Yogi, CIC, etc.
However, I am an American, active in my union, a member of the Green Party, and am considering joining a controversial union, the Industrial Workers of the World www.iww.org
Will any of these affiliations hinder my ability to acquire PR? If so, then I should drop joining the IWW and drop the Green party.

(in reply to: Does Union or Political activty prevent PR?) Same question, I was member of Canadian federal of student union local 64 campuses Coordinator before. I did write it in my files.
After I work in my current job, it??s union too, CUPE, Canadian union of public employee.
Did those organization affect your PR process?

(in reply to: Does Union or Political activty prevent PR?) I heard that Canada is actively resisting trouble-makers. So it may not be to your advantage to tell them you raise hell wherever you happen to be! Just might backfire.

(in reply to: Does Union or Political activty prevent PR?) labour union affilations should not be a problem. As for your political party affiliations, I would include a political plateform document that outlines all party policies. It will insure that CIC gets the right information so you are not penalized in any way.

political affinities- DSA (in reply to: Does Union or Political activty prevent PR?) Thanks all. I´ll drop the Green Party affiliation easily, and won´t bother with the Industrial Workers of the World. However, I am rather involved with the Democratic Socialists of America, which is not a political party but a political activist group. It is internationally associated with the New Democratic Party of Canada, which is in government right now. They are all members of the Socialist International (Tony Blair´s Labour Party, NDP, Parti Socialiste of France, etc.) Should I worry about that one?

(in reply to: Does Union or Political activty prevent PR?) don´t worry about the NDP group but please do not land in BC! (Toronto is much nicer) We had the NDP for 10 years and the province almost went broke! :)
