I am in a visit visa...I want to change it to work visa or Student visa ...can I do this while I am in Canada without the need to leave ?

Processing has to be done by the visa post of your home country or where you are permanently residing. If you apply from any other visa post, chances of approval are slim.

Yes you can study without student permit, if the course is less than 6 months. Like English programs, if it´s more than 6 months you need to apply in your home country. Hope this clarifies your situation.

yes Ralph, what you say is true but that was not the question. Question is... can you change or apply for a student visa or a work permit while you are inside Canada. answer to that is no.
