Subject: Canadian visa office - Nairobi
  Hi,

I was wondering if I could get some advice from anyone who has gone through the immigration process with the Nairobi office.

I have submitted my full completed forms to sponsor my wife to Canada with the CIC Mississauga (December 17th, 2008) and they have forwarded my application to the Canadian Visa Office in Nairobi for processing. I have received a letter February 12, 2009 stating in most situations the visa should be ready in 6 months and they have started processing the application. In the letter it also states that if they require an interview, they will contact me 2 months in advance which means they should contact us mid June. We have not been contacted as of yet nor have received any other status updates besides the letter in February. I took a look at CIC´s website to find out typical processing times from the Nairobi office, 80% of the cases take 23 months.

The questions I have,

- Do they usually fulfill the request based on the letter time frame (6 months) or do they usually take the full 23 months?
- Do we have to wait for a letter regarding a possible interview? My concern is maybe it got lost in the mail
- On the website it says please do not contact them unless the time frame has passed (is that the 6 month time frame from the letter of the 23 months off the CIC website)?
- I booked a flight to see my wife in Aug, so what is everyone´s take if her Visa will be ready by latest mid Aug so she can come back to Canada with me?

If you have anything else to help me with, please let me know!!! This is such a waiting game!!!!!

Thanks,

S

requesting a file number (in reply to: Canadian visa office - Nairobi)
I have received a letter from Mississaga that they have forwaded my application to sponsor my wife in July2009,up to now i haven`t received any notification that Nairobi have got the applicaion,started or not yet started with the process,
If the government of Canada treats everyone equally,let me know about the process and also send me the file number started with BO so that i can be following the case on line.
My wife within this year lost her mom and her brother in Uganda between April and July,therefore she is always sick.
I sworn before God,the Church and the government of Uganda that i will take care of my wife in sickness and in healthy,now she is suffering alone in Uganda.
If it is impossible for my wife to come,let me know so that i can leave Canada stay with my wife where she is.
Thank you very much.

take a deep breath.

you have made it through the first phase of the sponsorship process - they have approved YOU. now, they need to approve HER. At most, you are 3 months in to her side of the application. According to the CIC website, Nairobi is taking 12-25 months to complete the second phase depending on the complexity of the application.

Not sure what the equality statements are about. The process is right on the CIC website - including the wait times. You will likely get a file number within the next couple of months.

the best of luck to you.

interview (in reply to: Canadian visa office - Nairobi)
Nairobi started processing my wifes app Feb 12 and today Oct 26, she has a letter waiting at the consulate in her country, likely about the interview. I have done everything i can think of and contacted anyone who will listen and there nothing i can do to either get further info or a response from Nairobi. You just have to wait and hope u get the interview letter. Good luck! Is there any way to start a group that can ban together to protest the long wait times and the whole process of allowing the government to say who we can marry and who we cannot?

Canada is not saying who you can/cannot marry, they are determining who they will allow into the country. There is a difference. There is nothing preventing you from living with your spouse outside of Canada. Your spouse is coming as a courtesy to YOU by the Canadian government. They do not qualify on their own merits. Therefore, utmost care must be taken to insure that documents are legitimate, relationships are genuine and that intentions are honourable.

If the country´s beauraucracy is primitive, then verifications take extra time and the process drags on and on. if the consulate is small or there are significant numbers of applications - the process also drags on.

There is not much to protect. Family class takes priority in all cases so be thankful you are not a skilled worker or parental sponsor application!

Ridiculous long delays at Canadian visa office - Nairobi (in reply to: Canadian visa office - Nairobi)
Hi folks;
I applied to sponsor my wife back in April of 2008 and a month later I received a letter from Mississauga stating that my application was approved and that it has been forwarded to Nairobi, but since then I haven’t receive anything from Nairobi nor my wife. I went to see my MP but she didn’t seem to be very much concerned, she says that Nairobi has many cases and therefore my application was still in the queue. I am having hard time understanding this since I know some other guy (a white guy) who went thru the same process as mine but his case took only 6-8 months for the visa to be delivered to his African wife. I submitted everything they would need upfront starting from wedding photos, our emails (sent to each other) Western Union receipts, telephone bills (with her phone number listed) and so on…but still today the application hasn’t change the status online…this long distance is just killing me now, I cant take it anymore...something need to be done to put an end to this pain. Anyone who might have gone thru Nairobi and had his/her case processed faster please advise me what to do.
Thank you,

Hello Brother;
I am also in the same band wagon,
Nairobi Started processing my wife´s file on 12 Feb 2009 and since then I have not heard anything.
Maybe what you can try is to order the CAIPS notes that will help you know the actual status of the case.
Ben

Hey brother;
Congrats on approval and the successful transfer of file to Nbi office. You have joined the club.
I am afraid to mention this but these are facts; Nbi currently takes 17-26months to process upto 80% of cases... and this is what they call priority processing!
Its been 13months now for me and am still going strong in hope!
I wish you patience!
