Subject: Roy, where are the morning rants?
Hi Roy, its Mr. Magoo. I look forward to reading your morning rants, however they have been quite sparce lately.

I find them interesting, at times amusing and for the most part informative.

Hope to see some in the future, I am sure they are enjoyed by many.

Regards,

Mr. Magoo.

LOL You made my morning.

I so wanted to do a Rant and RANT about a certain subject but am concerned that I could get into serious trouble by pointing out in detail that the lack of experience of some Counsels can hurt your case.

I´m not really allowed to say anything in detail about any other representative which would seriously hurt the morning rant. I want to use an example but have to make it so that no one reading the Rant will know whom I am referring to.

Experience is extremely important when retaining Counsel to represent you. Just because they have initials after their name does not mean they are a quality representative nor ethical. Ethics is something that is taught by ones instructors from kindergarten upward and ones parents, relatives, friends etc. Representing your client ethically is often a very difficult task.

I just erased the details of my RANT, I´m WISE!

Hi Roy, thanks for the response. You are oh so right. When I started the process of sponsoring my common law spouse I spoke to an Immigratin Lawyer in Toronto. She told me point blank that I could not sponsor my common law spouse unless she got an annulment or divorce in the Philippines.

She does this for a living, and charges people for what she knows!!

If I can ask you one question? I have lived with my common law spouse on and off for about 2 and a half years, I have been back to Toronto many times. We will have been together for one full year in August and I intend to apply at that time.

The only concern I have is that in June she went to the US for three weeks as her previous mother in law was dying and she wanted her kids to meet her former husbands family. The kids will go to college in US and stay with her former husbands sister and they wanted to meet the kids just in case anything happens to him.

I stayed in the Philippines of course it certainly would not have been a good idea for me to have been there.

Other than that we have everything we need, lots of documentation, we have purchased a building lot, car etc together and have a monthly lease, joint bank account and many nice photos of us together and with her two daughters.

Will this separation period affect our application in your opinion?

Thanks so much,

Mr. Magoo.

if they ask you about it... tell the truth- just like you did here. Seems logical to me and that is all CIC is looking for - logical

Hi Sharon, thanks so much for your prompt reply, t is much appreciated. That is exactly what we intend to do. There will be no photos of us together for almost a month. For the most part we have photos of us together about one or two a week since August 2008.

I am just wondering based on your experience if this will have an adverse affect on our application as we have been together for a consecutive 12 month period, except for those three weeks.

Regards,

Mr. Magoo

if you were married... would this scenario be an indication that you were not married or that your relationship was in trouble??? no. you were doing what every normal couple does... one of you left to tend to family business AND came back in a reasonable time. I would be shocked if this was a problem.

Mr. Magoo

I sometimes wish I could grab money at the rates Lawyers charge for not knowing squat. or for that sake of ripping off my own ethnic group - whoops - their Canadian´s no profit in that.

I have been on this forum for a couple of years and 99% of the time Sharon hits it right on the nose.

gee, thanks Roy! So much of this immigration stuff is common sense, logic, and the basic provision of accurate information.

Thanks so much Roy and Sharon, your comments are much appreciated. I guess I can only hope that the Immigration Officer that handles our case is as sensible as the two of you.

Have a great day.

Mr. Magoo

Sharon, Roy, this may seem like a silly question but is it better to explain this absence upfront? I think their main focus is on me being in the Philippines which I have for almost a year. I was surprised and disappointed when she had to leave for the US as we wanted to spend the full 12 months together.

Or just leave it and explain it if required?

I don´t want to be dishonest in anyway, the only telling factor is there will be no pictures for that period of about 3 1/2 weeks.

We have pictures of us going back to January 2007 to present, taken at various intervals.

Your opinions would be much appreciated.

Regards,

Mr. Magoo.

if it would make you more comfortable... explain it. 3.5 weeks with no pictures... LOL, I went for years with no pictures with my partner! I am sure they will cope.
