| Subject: Should I apply for a student permit or not? |

Hi all,
I´m a Filipino citizen who´s currently residing in the US. I´ve been offered a paid graduate researcher position at a Canadian university. I´m planning to apply for a student permit and to apply for permanent residency at the same time. The problem is, I overstayed my US visa. I´ve been reading that my student permit application will be automatically denied because of my overstay.
So my question is, should I even bother applying, or should I just throw in the towel and give up the offered position? And if I do apply, where do I submit my application- to the Canadian embassy in the US, or in the Philippines?
Any response is greatly appreciated.
