well, what´s wrong with factory jobs? i´m in a high tech
semiconductor mfg. industry and this business offers a lot of jobs and opportunities. i am really thankful that Canada still has a factory that i can apply and work for, which is related to my mfg. experience. i am an equipment engineer.

It all depends on your field of expertise, you can do the search and actually apply for the jobs from where you live now. The avenues to do that are internet job sites like hotjobs.com, monster.com, workopolis.com etc. I know quite a few people in IT who actually did the ground work before and came in to canada and joined the job in 2 weeks.

If you think your field needs study or workexperience from north america then ofcourse you could do the research on net to find out the colleges/universities offering those courses and apprenticeship.

Do what I do: search for fitting jobs and apply to them. Inform them your immigration is in process. Most employers may just ignore since they are obligated to look for Canadian citizens or residents, but it might happen that you match a particular employers needs better than other applicants, and may thus end up with an offer... before you arrive there. In the worst case (no success whatsoever), you will at least know what kind of expectations they have and also get some training in applying for jobs. :) I charge people for training them how to apply for jobs! Remember, if nothing comes your way, you can wait tables or man the cleaning machines.... just to get by.
