Subject: Richmond, Burnaby or Surrey
Hi all. We will be landing in Canada next month as a PR. I just want to know your opinions regarding the three cities. Which is the better one to settle on? Which areas to avoid? I have 3 kids ages 8, 9 and 11.

Sharon, your input will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

I live in Vancouver city and I recommend to avoid it as it is very expensive and you will not afford it if you are employed immediately on landing.

I will vote for Richmond but not sure..Sharon or anyone lives in BC might give you better idea.

Burnaby and Vancouver are separated by a street. Burnaby, Vancouver and Surrey are separated by a bridge. Richmond is separated from Vancouver by a bridge.

Will you have a car, what sort of work are you looking for, how much money do you have for rent...

Thank you for the replies.

I don´t have a car yet when I land, but I will get one eventually. I am a teacher by profession but I still need to get certified in BC so it might take a while. I will work as a teacher aide or as an admin assistant if needed. I am looking at around $800-$1000 for rent.

It is very hard to find 2 or 3 bedroom apartment under 1000$. Check craigslist.com

it would make sense to live within transit distance of where you will get your certificate - SFU in Burnaby or UBC. Burnaby would likely be more cost effective.

Focus on this that the net income in that area of the country is currently the best.

That was hard for me to say being from Ontario.

Kits is beautiful... also some of the most expensive rental stock in the city. It is 3 blocks from the beach...great shopping and close to UBC. Does not get any more premium than that, unless you want to live in party central - Yaletown.

So Burnaby is the better option. All the while I thought Burnaby was the most expensive of the three in terms of rent. Thank you for all your replies.
