Subject: Marriage
I intend to marry someone whom is doing time in a us federal prison. Right now it looks as if i may have to apply for a fiancee visa and go to tha states. Is there anyway he could come to Canada,we intend to marry. I know that once he is paroled he can ask permission to stay in whatever state he wants to work in - think its possible for here?

well... ain't that a predicament (in reply to: Marriage)
I would say his chances are slim that he could come to Canada, very slim.... well I guess it all depends on what happend, etc... BUT, it would be a bad idea to try to apply for either place until he´s out of prison.

Furthermore, I doubt he will have the privilege of sponsoring you into the USA. You can look up specifics on the laws yourself but there is a TON of criminal and personal history research that goes on. Also with him having spent time in a federal prison is not real convincing that he can obide by laws/mandates/society and thus could be excluded on that basis. I say this primarily because I know you have to do something pretty serious to be in a Federal Prison.

My only recomendation: Talk to a lawyer in your area specializing in possibly both immigrations and criminal matters. Good Luck with the next few stages of life because in your case they might prove to be quite trying.

Cheers

know exactly what you are facing before you take the big step of marriage. There may be some insurmountable obstacles that are going to make your future very difficult. From someone who knows...the price of loving someone is sometimes too high. Please take care

Sometimes I wonder what happened to normal thinking! How did ya end up with a crook? Does it appear romantic to get involved in these kind of things? I suggest you movr to the US and pursue PR on any possible grounds, without involving him. And once he is outa pen, you can continue shagging the poor basta**! I bet he may need some loving after all the lonely time! Seriously, please think before you leap. WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH YOU?

Thanks all for your replies. I have spoken with a US immigration lawyer and he thinks that i can get to the us on a fiancee visa, but this is once he is out. The lawyer stated that there is a hell of a lot of background checks etc, my background is clean. So with this in my mind i may wait and try get PM status in the us. My man is in for conspiracy drug charges , there is no evidence. Yes he has served big time but he´s done. If i can´t get over to the us well then i guess i just can´t. Whats the matter with me - Love don´t judge. From a lonely canadian

Trina sorry to hear that babe, about loneliness. Don´t be. I am moving there by next Christmas, come over to wherever I am going to be (most likely to the Westside of the Continent) and you can hang out with me! If ya want.
