Subject: does the family of an temporary worker have medica
My husband is a temporary foreign worker in Alberta since april 2009 (We all have Belgian nationality). He is here on vacation with permission from his employer. We(me and 2 children 7 & 13 yrs)would like to join him and live in canada for a year. Do we have medical rights? Can my children study there? Can we apply for PR?
PLease advice urgently.
Thank you kindly,

LK

You should check with the Canadian Embassy before you leave your home country. As a visitor you are only allowed to stay a maximum of 6 months in Canada. For your kids in order to study in Canada they will require a student permit and the process has to be done from abroad.

Your husband (if elegible) he may apply while he is in Canada and once he is approved CIC will issue immigrant visas to all the family members included in the application.

Cheers,

Bill

She already said: " My husband is a temporary foreign worker in Alberta since april 2009........". That means he is not a visitor/ with European passport. He is employed right now.

as a foreign worker, depending on the class of your husband´s occupation, (I believe Class O, A, B), you (his family) might be entitled to some benefits including open work permit for you (his spouse).

In my case, my job is class A, my family (wife and 2 kids) came in as visitors, after a while, my wife applied for open work permit and children, for Visitor´s Record. My wife is now working, my children actually started school and also got the health cards b4 they got their immigration docs .

Some people prefer to apply for all these from their home countries (again depending on class of your husband´s job).

I did it here bcos i didnt want to take any chance!

best of luck!

A

i have applied under H & C. Me and my wife has open work permits. she is self employed and i am working for some company. I applied for OHIP, but they said they need letter from my employer stating that i am their employee and i will be their employee for the next atleast six months. I asked my employer for this letter, he said that he can give me letter stating my position, salary and about when i start working for him but he said that he´ll not write that i´ll be his employee for the next six months. i am working for this company for last 4 years. My employer said that he don´t want to sign any kind of bond that he will keep someone for six months, he said that may be he lay off some workers within few days or may be not.

You guys have any info/help/advice for me how to get ohip.

Why H & C application? It´s a long long process and unless you can provide compelling reasons, your application will be refused.
