Subject: POINTS SYSTEM
Hi, My husband and I recently submitted a free assessment and told it was positive. We were invited to complete a formal assessment and paid for this to be done. My husband has more than 67 points and they have stated may be eligable without the offer of a job. His occupation was also on the list of those in demand. I was short of the points and they advised I would need the offer of a job to make the mark.

Can we apply as a family on my husbands points alone or do I also have to make the 69 points before being considered?

When applying as a family (you and your husband), if either alone or both of your points together equal or exceed 67 points then both of you qualify. You could have zero points, but if your husband has 67 or more you´d qualify with him as a family.

Thanks for that. They obviously assessed us independently to see who had the highest points and my husband has the better points. I didn´t know if I was reading it properly as I didn´t want to get excited about the result and then be disappointed.

I think it´s now ok to get excited, as you guys together seem to satisfy the prequalification. Just bear with the tedious application process and you should get through fine barring anything out of the ordinary. Keep in mind the application although long, is straightforward and you could do it yourself, rather than hiring an expensive immigration lawyer or representative. Good luck.

GOOD NEWS!! (in reply to: POINTS SYSTEM)
Yes, we got the good news from the visa centre last night, that we are now in a position to proceed. They state waiting time is 6 - 12 months for us with an average of 9 mths.Bit quick for us that is. Daughter about to do final 2 yrs at school for Scottish Highers/Advanced highers first. With one year from medicals to enter, we could plan for 2 yrs ourselves, which they seemed ok with them. Now the thinking really has to begin.Where to live, etc and what job to do out there as we have choice of 2 careers to choose from

Not required. If you are a licensed nurse in your home country you can apply for immigrant visa to Canada and you can do the licensing in Canada later on but again not required for your PR application/status
