Subject: SIN # question |

I´m from Michigan (born) but spent most of my life in Ontario up until about 5 years ago, my PR status is no longer valid but recently i´ve been thinking about moving back to Canada which i consider home, to be closer to family and friends.
My question is:
Will i be able to keep the same SIN # i´ve had all my lifeand all that jazz? If i reapply for PR status and move back will i keep my old SIN # or will i be issued a new one and basically start from scratch? I´m mainly asking because when i moved back to Michigan a few years ago my credit in Canada was good, i don´t want to have to start over building it up..ya know? I figured by getting a new SIN # (if that´s what would happen) i´d basically have no credit at all and it would be like i never lived in Canada at all either.
What about everything else tied to my SIN as well? It seems like a pain to have to start completely over with a brand new number.
One more thing do i need a sponsor to apply and receive PR status? When i was a kid and moved my mom took care of everything. Right now i´m a single 32 yr old guy, can i just apply on my own or do i need a sponsor to move back?

(in reply to: SIN # question) As far as I know, both in the US and Canada you´ll be given only a single SIN, Soc Sec No. for life.

(in reply to: SIN # question) Thanks! i had read somewhere that SIN # are "deactivated" after 5 or 10 years of inactivity or whatever, if you´re not a citizen.

(in reply to: SIN # question) Not quite sure about Canada, but know that it is not the case in US.
