I see endless complaints about Canada and I start to wonder what people actually expect - Nirvana, Paradise, streets paved with gold?

interesting comment in the news tonight...

A hoarse but energetic Bill Clinton told a Toronto audience that Canada is the envy of the world.

"You (Canada) may want to make fun of yourselves all you want, but there are many people who would kill to live in an environment like this," the former American president said.

"I hope that his lifetime dream that America finally will follow Canada and every other advanced nation in the world in providing affordable health care to all of our people will pass," Clinton said of Kennedy.

I see both sides those complaining and those trying to remain here at don´t worry the cost.

I think as humans we forget the (bad) and only remember the (good) about back home.

Due to Canada being so ethnically diverse and others saying we have this in __________ why do you not have that here creates positive and negative issues and actually improves quality of life.

In Toronto they are trying to introduce ethnic street vendors so there is something to eat that is more healthy food then just a Hot Dog or Sausage on a huge Bun. Can you imagine that happening in the USA?

What gets me is those who can not comply with the logic "When in Rome do as the Roman´s do" These people want to move to Canada aka Rome and complain BEFORE they arrive.

Our neighbors to the south would say LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT!

Canadian´s say try it you will like it!

What they don´t understand is that once here you have a right to complain and before your here you have a right to question and research. When one is planing on renting a room in someone else house one does not complain about the family portrait on the wall before renting the room.

I am not into the original debate. But can I ask you AS A WOMAN: " can you really trust BILL CLINTON"?

nope, but I trust his wife (and she is the true Clinton health care advocate) and and I trust the medical system I have enjoyed my entire life so I think his intellectual judgement is better than his moral judgement.

I agree with Roy and Sharon.

As an immigrant, I know what you are saying. Personally, I come to Canada on the basis of the opportunity that I got from Canadian government. I am very happy to be in Canada.

I have friends who just like me, immigrants from other countries whose countries are much worse than Canada, not even comparable. When they were applying for SW or other ways they always pray 24 hours a day and don´t even sleep thinking on how their application turns out to be, hoping the approval of their application. But once they become in Canada, they just start to complain. It always irritates me to hear those people , keep saying this is that , why not this etc. Those people dont even have right to speak freely in their countries. They should instead than to Canada for freedom they never got.

Whenever I hear this, i say to them if you don´t like and keep complaining, why don´t you go to your country. I say you were the one who want to live in Canada, because you think that Canada is better than your country. No one is forcing you to come to canada, you were the one pegging until you secure your visa. Please stop. I am happy b/s i wanted to live here, no one forcing me to come to canada, noting to complain. If I have problem, i will figure it out by myself to overcome the problem. That is all

I know this makes some of you guys nervous. But this is the fact. But I know there are some people´s who has problem. This doesn´t include those people.

Simple Love it or leave it as Ray said.

HELP, I WANT TO BRING MY FAMIILY OVER (in reply to: Complain all you want)
Hi,i am currently working in canada as a contract worker with my husband. we left our daughter in the philippines with my mother, i am agressively looking for options on how i could bring my daughter over. i believe we can support her living here given that my husband and i are both working here. i have inquired about options, but my work is not classified under the skilled workforce and right now i am merely banking on arranged employment to be able to get my family or wait for a year before i could start my application. is there a faster way? i have also been hearing stories where students were able to bring their families over, is that an option for me as well? please enlighten me on this matter.

I´m not totally refuting the main tone; however want to mention few points if you don´t mind.

Does it really matter so much just whatever Bill clinton says about Canada? If tomorrow Bush says anything bad then would you believe that too? A good politician knows where and what to say to keep their listeners happy. Mr. Clinton visited our poor 3rd world country in 1999 as a president and made multiple comments like how he was impressed by our country....how happy the folks down there.....

It looks like Clionton´s comment was made mostly on the basis of healthcare system. It is undeniable argument. No doubt. However, like I said many times in the past, without much debate or some exceptional personal preferences, please keep in mind that in the immigration world the point of free healthcare or paid healthcare doesn´t play a big role. Yes, it may be a big point for the citizens who already feel that problem, but for the neutral immigrants it is not a big deal. If don´t believe then just try to compare the inter migration rate bet´n US and Canada.

We shouldn´t think within the "absolute zone" that Canada has a great healthcare system. This is not true although it is much better compared to US healthcare system. Having been in UK for longer time, the healthcare is totally free there and delivered in excellent standard. However, I didn´t like the idea of paying heavy tax and National insurance for other lazy people to abuse the healthcare system there. Even people used(and still) to come as visitors or in student visa but in their plans they come for major surgical operation etc etc.
Here in Canada healthcare is more under control, which is positive. However, I know too many people who struggle to find a family doctor. I know too many others who struggle to pay for the prescription fees. I know too many who neglect their teeth (dental related issues) because simply they can not afford. The national healthcare work very well in Germany and France.
The shortage of doctors in Canada is at unacceptable level. I can not understand, why the doctor who is qulaified and licensed to work in UK and Europe is unable to automatically do the same in Canada? where and what is the problem?

yes, shortage of doctors is a problem especially in rural areas. 2 major errors for the shortage that is taking far to long to fix - Accreditation and residency positions - thank a closed shop College of Physicians and Surgeons who think their system is the only system... and a stupid govenment policy back in the 70´s or 80´s (can´t remember) that suggested the best way to control ballooning health care costs was to limit access to doctors.

You know how long it takes to train a doctor from start to finish? Stupid decisions that are taking forever to fix.

At one point the British Healthcare system was a trainwreck. The last 8-10 years have shown dramatic improvmements. France, Sweden - all worth learning from and we are.

I agree with DC-RC on health care comment. Hardly, majority of immigrants see health care benefit as a huge selling point to immigrate. The most important fact they think before deciding to immigrate is that job security, like being able to get a job in the field they are trained for. The sad reality is, Canada isn´t known for accepting when it comes to foreign credentials - Doctors become cabbies, Engineers become MCDonals staff and so on. I´ve seen and heard lots of such tragic stories around my social circles. These peoples stayed in Canada till they get citizenship and, once they got it, they migrated to US where their credentials are valued. Canada is becoming more and more like a stepping stone in the eyes of new immigrants.

@Sharon,
do you honestly expect Clinton to say bad things about host country when he is addressing to its people? I hope you are not that naive.
