I know that you certainly can extend. Not sure how to go about... you may have to contact the Canadian Embassy for that.

I don´t think you can extend the immigration visa issued to you because when you receive the visa with you passport you got the letter stating that they already extend the visa as max time as they could. So, yes you have to land on or before (x) April 2005 as stated in your visa. But to be sure why don´t you contact CIC office that issued you the visa.

Rules of the game are clear. 1 year from the medicals. If you don´t enter within a year you have to re-apply. Unless you have a clear WRITTEN statement from CIC - I´d say don´t go on anyone´s word or hearsay.

You CANNOT ask to extend the visa. You must land by the date specified or you will lose your PR status.

You can however land by the date, wait a few weeks for the PR card, and then return home to finish up whatever business you need to do.

I believe that PR cards must now be picked up in person, they are no longer sent out in the mail.
