Subject: Canadian Marrying A US Citizen |
I live in Canada and my bf lives in the US. The plan is for me to go to the US with him and get married. Do I lose my Canadian citizenship when we get married?

(in reply to: Canadian Marrying A US Citizen) Why would you lose Canadian citizenship? If you try to get the US citizenship, things can get complicated. My knowledge is that you can´t have dual citizenship with the US. Drag him to Canada and make him lose his citizenship! LOL

(in reply to: Canadian Marrying A US Citizen) Not true. I have dual citizenship, US and Canadian. Many Canadians have US Citizenship, including some of our elected officials.

(in reply to: Canadian Marrying A US Citizen) My wife and all our children have dual US/Canada Citizenship. Both the US and Canada recognize and allow it. To lose US Citizenship one must renounce it "with the intent to relinquish it: before a US consular officer. If not, the US will presume, even upon aquisition of a foreign citizenship that you never intended to give up your US Citizenship

(in reply to: Canadian Marrying A US Citizen) Good news for me. We applied for Canadian immigration and hoping to get it in a year or so. I used to work in the USA on H1B1 visa for three years. My daughter born in the USA and she is a US citizen. So she can have dual US/Canada Citizenship.
cheers
