Subject: Permanent Residency proof of funds
Hi, I´m hoping to find some answers here because I only get automated responses when I call the canadian government or visa offices. I´m a 22 yr old international student in Canada from the US. I completed a 16 week program course in Canada with a 3.86 gpa and I have an associate degree from the US. I want to apply for permanent residency in Canada as a self employed person. I worked miminum wage jobs in the US for about 3 years and I currently own a salon there, my tax returns for the last two years both show income of around $21,000. I´ve never worked in Canada and only studied 4 months. I went to the CIC website and it says I need to prove funds of $10,833 CAD to immigrate as a skilled worker or professional, but then on another page it says I need a net worth of $300,000? I´m really confused. I wanted to apply as a skilled worker but none of minimum wage jobs I did are listed under the occupations. I only have about $2,000 in my bank account right now. Is there anyway I can get permanent residency now? My english is excellent but I know little french.

If you had the skills they are looking for as a skilled worker then you would only need to prove the 10K.
The 300K is regarding self employed professionals.

As self employed you will need to open a business in Canada with that 300K.

If youc coming as an investor you need even more.

The reason there are different requirements is because they are a completely different set of person applying.

A doctor who can be employed would not need as much money as a person wanting to open a business that contributes to Canada.
If you only had the 10K you could not open a business and then you would need to get a job.
Since we have too many un employed Canadians already why bring you in just to get a job.

That is the logic behind those stipulations.

hope it helped.
