Subject: How long before I can sponsor?
  G´day all,

Please help me on this.

I landed in Canada as a PR 5 months ago, & found a job 3 months ago. In the meantime, my mother passed away and my father´s been left all alone in Perth (Oz). I´d like to sponsor him as a parent of a PR.

My understanding is that PR´s normally have to show adequate earnings in Canada for a year before they can sponsor.
- Is this a rigid rule?
- Or can I sponsor him now, based on the fact that I held a good job in Oz and have held a good job in Canada from 3 months ago?

- while his sponsorship´s being processed, can he still visit us as a tourist? He´s got dual (UK & Oz nationality), so entering Canada as a tourist is not a problem for him.

Cheers

Hi,

Please help; I´m desperate for an answer !!

Has there been a reply directly to the e-mail address? I sent this from my partner´s e-mail as we were going through his inbox, and he confirms he has not received an e-mail response since.

Please help. I´m really concerned about my aged father.

Your OZ employment does not show what your capabilities are in Canada - sorry.

parental sponsorship takes 3-4 years. I would suggest you let him come for a visit and then apply for sponsorship. otherwise border officials will know your intentions of wanting him to live here permanently and they won´t allow him into the country for fear he won´t leave at the end of 6 months.

However, be clear that you better have good medical insurance for your father if he is not well.
