Subject: Canadian Rights? - 3
I hate to start a new tread on an already worn out topic, but by the time I get back to reading and responding, the related threads are full.

Well, you all agree with each other and pat each other on the shoulder, and that´s fine. You´re all Canadian so I think there´s a sense of flag-waiving defensiveness of your border services. But I hope we all respect each other enough in realizing that not everyone thinks alike. By nature I´m a contrarian, so to be the lone guy out (along with the original poster) in this discussion is fine. But I suspect there is a silent number out there who also don´t see it the way you all do.

my hassles are always with US border staff.

a while back all got a little bent out of shape about the new requirement of passports. I think I got told to suck it up in that circumstance.

Tone of voice is a tough thing to pass judgement on, especially when we do not have the luxury of being witnesses. I had a customer take offence at a 5 foot nothing, 90 pound female security guard asking a drug dealer to move along the other day. The complainant thought she was being agressive and intimidating. In truth... she was scared and very unsure of herself. What was perceived as an unnecessary call to police was actually a call to her supervisor for instructions.

None of us were at the border. None of us heard the tone of the first question, did not see the alerts that day, did not hear the tone of the answers and therefore, we are going to debate the necessity of the questioning forever.

There is an old Gilbert and Sullivan song called ´Things are seldom what they seem´. Perhaps this is one of those situations.

How many times do people say they have no criminal record, and then it turns out they do? How many times do people say they have no food, cigarettes or alcohol to declare and then they do? How many times do people say they bought that $4000 watch "a long long long time ago" and then the receipt is found hidden in the car or in a pocket and it was purchased that trip? How many times do people say they are only coming for a 1 week vacation but Canadian reception says 6 months maybe more? Or when the person says there coming for vacation yet have tools and work clothes with them, no camera, travel guides etc...just a phone number for a construction company.

What about the business man coming back from a "business trip" in the philippines with 3000 photos of child pornography on his laptop. A person could just go on and on and on about why people cannot be trusted. Maybe only 5% are lying. I don´t know. They don´t know either. I´d rather them ask me a whole bunch of questions and then be one my way (because I am not trying to do anything wrong) and hopefully they catch the scum that keeps getting into this country that we all love so much.

Well I do agree with Richard on one basic point: when you are returning to your OWN country, it is kinda lame and redundant to keep nagging one where he is going or what he is going to do! Basically, it is none of the immigration´s business where a returning citizen might stay or do. It may funny if they ask if he/she is returning to do crime or such! Regarding goods and illegal stuff, they can ask but they might better check!

Costs
(in reply to: Canadian Rights? - 3)
I think some people have no idea just how many people attempt to enter the country using fraudulently obtained or photo substituted etc... PR cards and or Canadian passports. Because some morons think it´s ok to be careless and lose it (travel document) or sell it while they are on vacation. Plus as "Costs" just pointed out, they do both, Immigration and Customs. So even IF the officer is satisfied that the person is in fact Canadian, they still have to worry about the goods coming into the country.

"it is none of the immigration´s business where a returning citizen might stay or do."
--->whose business is it then? The police in the country? Regular citizens? No one´s? Luckily, until the officer is satisfied that he/she is dealing with a citizen, legislation federally enacted makes it the officer´s business like it or not!

Plus one more tidbit to add.
Just because the Officer is asking you questions it does not mean they have anything to do with immigration.
Maybe he is seeing how you respond to questions.
Maybe he is wanting to see if your shaking in your boots because your car is stuffed with child porn and cocaine.

Or maybe, just maybe...hes doing his job.
And since you decided that you wanted to go over a border you have now made it your choice to cross the border and now you legally have to answer the questions imposed upon you.
Love it or hate it, its still the law and its not going to change.

And now that this has been said,
Can we move on.

I come on to this website to help new and potential immigrants with questions they have.
I only answer the questions I know for sure because I do not want to waste peoples time.

When people use this immigration forum to whine and complain about the great law enforcement men and women who work hard every day to enforce the laws and protect Canada I see that as a major waste of space and time.

Lets get back to what really matters, and that is legitimate people asking legitimate questions.

99% of the legitimate questions here can be answered by looking at the CIC website and doing a little research. maybe we should ask the administrator to close the forum down because it is redundant!

Let´s not make this a forum for people who arrive out of the blue, and then feel the need to judge people´s motives and what threads are legitimate or "waste of time".

Everyone has a right to their opinion, and sometimes immgration issues are not black or white. Some are perceived by the observer and/or immigrant, and vary widely based on the event and situation. Often times there is no definitive right or wrong answer.

So if those who come here think we´re all going to always defend the way Canada or any country is operating its immigration rules and policies, better find a government-sanctioned forum that doesn´t allow dissenting or other opinions.

Im taking a wild guess that you think I appeared out of the blue.

I started on this site about a month ago answering a question regarding PR residency requirements.
Since then I have answered all questions that I knew the answers to .
I have helped few people out.

If you do not feel that I am fit to help people on your website then I would welcome being asked to leave.

Of course no matter how long any person has been on this website does not make them more or less educated or smart enough to figure out that a Canadian came on to an immigration website to complain about the CBSA.
Then a few more of your members tried to bash the CBSA saying they had no right to question this Canadian.

I strongly disagree with that opinion, since it is incorrect.
Then someone came on calling himself Richard and tried to slam me because of that.

I then believe the same person opened one or two more forums to to talk about the same topic.

If you dont want the opinion of someone who deals with immigration on a daily basis coming to your website because I have not ben around enough, then please let me know.
