Subject: entry visa?
hi, i just extended my stay -changed conditions from student to visitor and recieved by mail 1. approval letter with a visitor record official paper in it
2.medical examination paper

my questions is
1 if i m in canada -how do i get the visa stamp in my passport (the previous student one expired in 10 days) -do i need to go ot the border with US and kinda re-entry the country so that the border officer would issue me a visa?
2 will it be up to officer to issue me a single -entry or multiple visa? or visitors only get one type of visa? (i am worried about coz i will need to go home for a week or to soon)

3. do i need to go through medical examination prior getting visa or it doesnt matter?

You do not need the stamp.
The stamp is good for a period of six months, UNLESS an officer extends that period of time (ie: Visitor Record).
Your visitor record is NOT a visa.
A visa only allows you to present yourself to an officer.

You will need to apply from outside of Canada at a Canadian consulate to recieve a Visa.

Your visitor record allows you the status in Canada, allows you travel by motor vehicle to the US (as long as the US will take you) and back, but does NOT allow you travel over seas.

As for your medical examination?
Are you applying to become a permanent resident?

I would need more details to fully understand why you are requiring medicals done.

But, you can go to www.cic.gc.ca to find a list of suitable doctors in your area that you can get your medicals done at WITHIN Canada.

I hope this helped to answer your questions.

hi thanks,

i finally got through to the call centre.
Basically, I just need to apply for temporary visa again coz i have a visitor status now (instead of work permit). So that´s not a problem anymore, thanks!

I´ll tell you what I was told by one consultant. If you want to change your visa type within Canada, you can do so by sending your form to Buffalo office. Whether you´ll be asked to come for interview is solely depend on visa officer discretion. You may be asked to come or you may not be. If you are asked, you may need to apply US visa if you are from a country which doesn´t signed visa waiver program with states. For getting back in, you can use your current visa.
For question no.2, it depends on what you apply for. It´s basically like applying from outside. You´ll get what you apply for.
For question no.3, it´s officer discretion. Some people like me didn´t get ask for that but other people were.

Take note that, I can´t confirm the veracity of this information. So I strongly suggest you to discuss with someone with thorough knowledge on immigration issue.
