Subject: Sponsorship of Aunt |

Hello,
I am a PR card holder and am trying to sponsor my aunt to Canada. She is my mother´s sister and is currently in Dubai. I would like to do this directly from Canada and not have her apply from Dubai.
For one thing, she is 60, and although working for a reputable company - I hear the Canadian Immigration office there is not the easiest to get through with.
I do know that it may be difficult if not near impossible sponsoring an "aunt" and they dont classify as "family" but perhaps there are other ways. She does have a brother and sister in Canada and lots of other family members. Is is possible at all to put forth a case. I understand there is a ´5 person sponsor´ rule but that only applies to refugees. Is this correct?
What are her chances of actually being able to immigrate and what would I need to do or go about to get the application under process?
I am married and with a baby, is there a way of sponsoring her as a nanny perhaps?
All replies welcome!
Thank you.

(in reply to: Sponsorship of Aunt) on what basis would there be a refugee claim?

(in reply to: Sponsorship of Aunt) There wouldn´t. My question is - is this rule strictly related to refugees?

(in reply to: Sponsorship of Aunt) I believe Alberta and Manitoba have a broader acceptance criteria on family class. There may be opportunity there if your family members reside in either province but I am a little doubtful that there is a way for her to qualify under family class.
Nanny? what qualifies her?

Sponsorship of Aunt (in reply to: Sponsorship of Aunt) Did you ever sponsor your aunt from Dubai? I have an elderly aunt abroad with no family as well and all her family (brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, etc.) are in Canada, specifically Mississauga.
From all the information I´ve read on the CIC website, aunts do not qualify for sponsorship. Is there another way?
I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks.
Tom
