Subject: Live-in Caregiver Program
The live-in caregiver program submitted to have her work permit visa extended as the contract was extended an additional 24 months. The new work permit was only renewed for 3 more months. It was a shock since the request was for 24 months and we thought that she would at least get an extension for 1 year. CIC wnats their fees, right. When we called the CIC call center we found out that the reason for such a short renewal was that the LMO was expiring in 3 months. WE also found out that the Canadian Embassy in Rome where she applied never enrolled her in the Live-in Caregiver Program where after 24 monhts she would be eligible to apply for permanent residence. The call center sent us web links becasue they assumed we did not fill out the correct forms but all the documents that were used to apply for the original work permit said Live-in Caregiver Program, the job contract also said the Live-in Caregiver program and we used all the forms that were on the web link provided by CIC. Since this is obvious a mistake on the Canadian Embassy´s part waht can we do to fix this. CIC said that we can re-apply to an outside embassy since she´s already living in Canada. But why should she pay again for the application, also she would have to leave Canada to go to the interview. If she applies in Buffalo, the US may not give her a visa to enter to go to the interview. Going back to Italy would be very expensive and puts the employer in a difficult situation as they need to find someone to look after the child. Does anyone have any answers on what should we do now? Thank you all.

this is frustrating. i understand. i work under LICP too.
if "THEY ASSUME" that the applicant filled up the wrong form, or whatever, why did they let the applicant work and get in Canada? under what category then? they must have processed it wrong way then.
the applicant must have received letters from CIC during application. check all the letters in regards Caregiver application. sometimes, CIC makes mistakes. sometimes, they admit it, sometimes, the cover it.

For clarity and to support your caregiver´s case, she can file an Access to Personal Info request to CIC - get the entire file and all parties will know who´s right, who´s wrong.
Also, if the caregiver came in to Canada to work as a caregiver - it would have been stated on her visa - and if she has completed the two years as required, she is eligible to apply for an OPEN WORK PERMIT so an LMO is not necessary.
