  Dear All

I am planning to land in canada with my family. Me and my wide have our PR of Canada and our daughter is a US citizen so i want to know whether there will be any issues for her at port of entry of canada.

Also I am interested in learning how to start life after landing in vancuover
If someone can give some tips wrt folliwng that will be great

1. How to find housing in good safe area in vicinity of all facilities like transportation, groceries, job opportunities and good schools etc
2. Which is the best way of start searching for jobs in canada. Any websites, agencies or non-profict volunteer organizations that can help us in our job search.
3. Is there a good source from where we can get all infromation of good schools for our kid
4. Is there a good source from where we can get Car on Leaseor buy a car as we don´t have any credit history in canada

Thanks in advance
Gaurav

Your child is not eligible to go to school in Canada unless she is a Canadian PR or citizen. She will not be admitted without proof of eligibility and a medicare number (if her medicare is still in process it shouldn´t be a problem. We provided our Blue Cross temporary insurance while we were waiting for medicare to kick in). US citizenship does nothing for her as far as living in Canada goes. My understanding is that you will have to sponsor her.

Monster.ca is a good place to start for job searching. Better still, research companies in your field and check their websites regularly. Agencies typically charge fees and their services vary.

Schools vary widely in Canada as they do everywhere. Typically the higher priced neighborhoods have better schools and more resources available. When you have narrowed your housing search to a few areas you can look up the school districts and individual schools online. Numbers aren´t everything and I would highly recommend checking them out in person.

Good luck.

I wondered that too. It seems strange that both you and your wife have PR but not your young child?

2 is too young to attend any sort of school yet anyway. Public school won´t begin until 4 or 5 depending on the province (not sure about BC).

After she gets PR approval she will be eligible for medicare. Until then, I highly recommend you purchase private insurance for her.

Maybe someone here can help you with the sponsorship. Not sure what will happen when you and your wife land with an ineligible child. I hope someone can help you, but you might want to check out the cic website for information on sponsoring.

if the child was alive when the PR was issued, but was not included in the application, we have misrepresentation.

Questions on post-landing and kid's status (in reply to: Questions on post-landing and kid's status)
Thanks a lot for your inputs
Our kid was not born when we got PR and thats the reason she is US Citizen.

And regarding School I was curious to learn whether we can send her in some pre-school or play school or whether for that also we need her to become Permanent Resident first?

Thanks and Regards
Gaurav

so you are moving - not Landing. big difference.

pre-school/play school is a user pay service so her status is not a factor.

Yes, moving and landing are quite different. Have you already landed or have you held onto your PR visa for 2 years? Something doesn´t seem quite right.

At any rate, expect "preschool" in Canada to be different than what you might expect in the US. A true preschool in the US begins at 3 or 4 and is academic; here it is much more play based and generally the same as day care. The three terms--preschool, play school, and day care--are used interchangeably, at least where we live, and all are used to mean some form of private day-long care while parents work whether in a group setting or in a private home. There are no academic standards as far as they are concerned.

You will likely have to show proof of insurance for your daughter if you put in her someone else´s care. I cannot stress enough the importance of private insurance until you straighten out her residency.

Thanks a lot again for your valuable inputs

To answer your questions we did landed in canada 3 years back but just to complete landing formality and came back to USA back with in 10 days

Now the deadline is coming near and we have to move back to canada to stay there for atleast 2 years to retain our PR status.

So if buying private insurance for her will help her in admitting to a play school.

We are thinking of applying for her PR also after moving to canada I hope we will be good in this case?

Thanks a lot again
Gaurav

Don´t you wish you applied for her (kid) PR soon after her birth? That way, you would have squared away what appears like an issue now that you decided to move to Canada...
