Hi there, my husband has just been offered a position in Victoria Canada. We have two children aged 7yrs and 9yrs. I am not sure about what schools would be the better ones in that particular area of Victoria as we will be heading from New Zealand. Also any suggestions on good areas for housing, we will rent to start with, but would consider purchasing as we intend to stay for a good couple of years. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks

Not sure about B.C. but in Ontario the school one can attend is based on the area where one lives. All schools should have the same criteria forced on them by that province. You can pick a private school if you have the money and time to take them there everyday.

Google rental accommodation then the school for that area based on your children ages.

Possibly Sharon would know more because that is almost her neck of the woods.

Victoria is a government town with a public education system that is as good as anywhere in the world. Yes, there are neighbourhoods that are nicer than others - like any city.

If you have a job offer, ask the employer about neighbourhoods close by the work location. If it is an industrial area, some of the employees may be able to offer suggestions that are a reasonable commute.

Thanks for that information. I have spoken to a couple of people who have suggested Gordon Head, James Bay and Oak Bay. I am not sure what would be the better one, or if they are all the same. Not sure if you have heard of any of these places and if you have, which one would suit a family? Cost wise would one be more expensive? If you can help that would be great, if not thanks for all your advice so far. Karen :-)
