Subject: PR Card - When do I get it after Initial Entry
  Hi,

Please help. I have got PR status, and am eager to know :

Q1 : How long does it get to get a PR Card after initial entry in to Canada?

Q2 : Can I visit Canada for a shortwhile & return to UK, arranging for my Canadian friend to receive the PR Card & post it to me?

My initial entry deadline in Dec 2009. As I have not wrapped up all my UK affairs, I plan to visit Canada for a few weeks in Dec 2009 to meet initial entry deadline, return to UK to wrap up affairs, & then permanently move to Canada in June 2010.

I will stay with friends in Canada & can provide a fixed address. However, I cannot visit Canada for more than 2-3 weeks in Dec09, so I´d like to know :

(A) How long does it take to get the PR Card after initial entry? I have heard it normally takes two weeks, but someone on this site mentioned ´not to travel for TWO MONTHs"

(B) The PR Card will be posted to the friend´s address I´ll stay at in Dec 2009 as that is the residence address I will give to immigration on initial entry. If so, can my friend subsequently receive the PR Card & post it to me in the UK? Will this cause any immigration problem issues?

Thanks

I am going to answer the questions above but I am asking a related question. Does CIC accept work address for the purpose of sending PR card?
Thanks in advance

Dave

1) 44 days (The PR card processing centre is experiencing higher than usual processing times)

2) Yes, you can give them your friend address. Also, you friend can send you the card. No problem at all.

Good luck

Dave you seem to sound like a numbnut: you need legal help to obtain your PR card. It would cost ya just 750$ US. Need help? let me know.

Costs, get a job instead of trolling this forum for cash.

I am surprised you did not say $5,000 again!

The reason you are to "not travel for two months" is if you are from a VISA REQUIRING COUNTRY the airplane will not let you fly back to Canada without your PR card or a VISA.

Since you are from the UK you have no issues.

As well incase someone else is reading this who is from a VISA REQUIRING COUNTRY, you can travel (by land only) to the US and back without any issues while waiting for your card. You just need your original landing document and proof of citizenship (the passport your landing document is in)

PS never get legal advice for small matters.
Hell you do not need them for most, unless of course your situation is a sticky one.

Hope that helped.

upset (in reply to: PR Card - When do I get it after Initial Entry)
hi all
i got my landing papers on oct 26 ,2009
theres a mistake in the landing paper as follows ,
surname- john mcain
given name - ---------(blank)
where as in real i dont have a surname ,i just have given name john mccain (first and last ) on my all documents including passport
so the correct order should be
surname - ------(blank)
given name - john mccain
when i went to apply for sin card ,they turned me back rudely and said they cant help ,its concerened with immigration.
when i called cic agents they said i will have to wait for pr card to come .
MY QUESTIONS IS
IS IT SURE THAT THEY WOULD ALLOW ME SIN CARD WHEN I GET MY PR CARD WHICH IS GONNA SHOW MY NAME AS
MCCAIN , JOHN
OR I HAVE TO REPPLY FOR RECORD OF LANDING WHICH HAS A TIME FRAME OF 6 MONTHS .
i am so dis heartened please help , all my happiness just flushed away

Hi Dave,

Just want to check if everything went fine with your PR Card. We are in the same situation.

do you apply personally for the PR Card? Just want to check what´s the minimum days we need to stay in Canada as we have to go back to work :)

thanks!

PR Card processing time is about 4-6 weeks after filling in the application form, which is done after landing. on the form you are supposed to provide an address (can also be a post box) within canada since the card will not be shipped abroad. during this time you´re not supposed to leave the country. however, you can leave the country if you have to. I think in this case you need to inform CIC and they will provide you some kind of form or letter that will allow you to get into canada again. you will need this form/letter even if you´re from countries that do not require a tourist/visitor visa (such as UK, germany, etc.) to get into canada without any hassle.
