Subject: requirements for keeping PR valid |

Hi everyone!
great forum with lots of very useful information. Would greatly appreciate if someone could kindly answer the following questions for me ..
1)How many years out of 5 does one have to stay in Canada to keep the PR card valid ? is it 2 years in every 5 years or 3 years in every 5 years?
2)If due to the above requirement one looses their permanent residentship, then will the whole process be easier/shorter for them if they apply again for a new PR card?
thanks very much for your help!

Keeping PR valid (in reply to: requirements for keeping PR valid) You must live in Canada for 2 years out of every 5 years. You can stay away for 3 years at any one time - but then you MUST live in Canada for the next 2 years before you can leave again.
And no if you stay away too long, you will lose your PR status. You will not be able to apply for a new PR card - you will have to pay the fees and reapply for PR status all over again.
