Subject: Suddenly orphaned brother
I have my little brother(12 yrs) with me - on a visit. My Mum fell ill in August just before the end of summer holidays and unfortunately passed away during surgery. I am now wondering what to do with my little brother as we lost out father to a car accident four years ago. I cannot send my brother back to Africa right now, but do not know what to do. I have renewed his visitors visa till early next year. There is no one to send him back to. Can I sponsor him from here? Is there someone I can contact for help? I need some advice urgently. How do I get him to a school, I only have his passport as ID. I extended his health insurance.Thank you ~ Adejin

Hi Adejin,

Please accept my condolences on the death of your mum. As per your brother´s situation, I´ll suggest you call the CIC toll-free number to start with. I don´t have it here but a search on their website will surely be rewarding. When eventually you get to send in his application, make sure you can prove that your parents are no longer with us. Certified copies of their death certificates should suffice along with other supporting documents. Please leave no stone upturned in proving your brother´s case. I´m emphasizing this because of CIC´s attitude towards Nigerians and other countries classed as ´high risk´. (I guess you´re a Nigerian. I am too).

All the best

what has a country needs to do with this. it is you like Franco that are bringing down the image of your country. the guy asked for a simple question rather than advising him you are talking of "high risk".

Adejin - you may be able to sponsor him under H & C grounds. Where in Canada are you right now? I asked because there are some wonderful immigrant-serving organizations that may be able to give you help - for free.

Adibles, did you wake up on the wrong side of your bed? I´m sure Adejin understands I was only stating the obvious: Most non G8 countries are classed as places where people want out. It is better to go the extra mile to prove your case than to be sorry you didn´t.
And FYI: I´m a Nigerian, proud to be one, and will never refer to my country in condescending terms.

@ PA I am in Caledon, please share with me the free service agencies - I am willing to travel to any where in the GTA.
@Franco can I use these forms in Canada processing...I have the death certificate for Dad but only the death reports and post mortem reports for my Mum. The death certificate will be available sometime end December or January.
