Subject: Applying from within Canada
My wife (an American) and I are about ready to submit our application. We´ve taken care of all of the necessary things for applying from outside of Canada. However, she is going to be coming here for a couple months at the end of February. I never thought it was possible to apply from within Canada on a visitor´s visa, but I looked into it, and apparently you can (as long as you maintain your status by extending the visa).

Anyone ever applied from within Canada as opposed to outside Canada? Or can anyone offer insight on if this is possible?

PS. I called and asked some questions, and while it takes longer, she would be able to stay with me throughout the process. Which is really important to both of us.

Yes you can... (in reply to: Applying from within Canada)
You can apply within Canada( I did so) when the application reaches the Approval in Principle ( aprox. between 4 and 6 months after you mail it) she will be able to apply for an Open Work Permit. After the AIP could take between a few month up to 9 months to get the Full Permanent Resident Status.
Applications from outside may take less time, but anyways I´ve known from In Land Cases that just have taken 6 months and outside cases that have taken monre than one year.
Generally outside is faster but If she´s here with you she will be able to work after the AIP and also to apply for Medical Coverage .
