Subject: Apply or wait?
  Hello,
I´ve been in Canada on a work permit for the last 18 months. I would like to apply for permanent residence but after reading about the new Canadian Experience Class program I was wondering which avenue to take. Shall I go ahead now with a regular Federal skilled worker application or shall I wait another 6 months and apply under the Canadian Experience Class category? I´m just interested in saving time in the long run.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Sandy

Wait (in reply to: Apply or wait?)
Hi Sandy

Under the Canadian Experience Class you can get your PR within 18 months (approx). I do not think there is a Federal Skilled Worker class like before but you need to be in the 38 occupations. You can look this up on the web. For this you need a minimum period employed as one of the 38 occupations. If you are not in the one of the 38 then your only recourse is to wait 6 months and apply under the Canadian Experience class. Can someone correct me if I am incorrect

Good Luck
Jay

Re: Apply or wait? (in reply to: Apply or wait?)
Sandy - Govt has a quota of 7000 visas under CEC for 2009, which is going to exhaust by mid-november.

As per the immigration plan 2010 tabled in the parliament on Friday, the CEC quota has been brought down to 2700 for 2010. There are more than 150,000 foreign workers in Canada who will be eligible for CEC by 2010. So you can do the maths now.
