Subject: Time line for Perm. Resid. within Canada?HELP
  Hi every One!
Thanx for UR Great SITE!

I came to Canada almost 8 years ago and applied for Refugee Claiment within Canada(which received a negative Decision) then Finally i Received my Positive humanitarian and compassionate application (Approval in Principle) To become Perm. Resident In March2004. in the letter it mentioned that it will take about 9 months to go for my Landing Interview.
I was asked to redo my Medical Exam which i did in June and also did my RCMP FingerPrints at the same time. I also sent the Updated Personal Information (to be sent in for BackGround Checking by immigration) in July and since then i have been waiting ...
I called the Immigration Office In vancouver and they told me everything is in order except they still have not received RCMP report and the Back Ground Checking...

I will really appreaciate it if anyone can give me some idea how long it usually takes and what kind of Time Frame i am looking at? because it has already been more than 10 months since I received my Appro in Princ. Does it usually takes this long for people have been living in Canada for 8 years and don´t even have a Speeding Ticket?
I am hoping that i Can Have my PR card ASAP because I need to visit my Aunt in USA ..she is very sick and i am not able to leave Canada before i Have my PR Status.

Thank You very much

Moonlight

time line (in reply to: Time line for Perm. Resid. within Canada?HELP)
hi
well tell u the truth .. my application for H & C was a complicated one .. it was my second one and i already had a pending PRAA application as well. i applied for 2nd H & C back in 2002 and it was transferd to a local office in 2003and they notified me that the officer have both of my application and will make a decision based on both of them . .. my interview was in feb 2004 and got the approval letter in March 2004.. so mine took a long time
but i have heard these days they do it much faster actually.
if u go to their website i think it might help u a little bit...

(Approval in Principle) (in reply to: Time line for Perm. Resid. within Canada?HELP)
hi ham
well when u apply for H&C.. it means u r asking immigration to allow u to apply for Permanet Residency whithin canada because u need to have an exemption to be able to apply for PR within canada .. it is the law that PR should be done outside of Canada. ... and to achieve that exemption u need to bring enough evidence that u will face hardship if u leave canada and apply from outside... now when u have a positive decision then u have the (Approval in Principle)to apply for Perm. Resi within canada
now in my case they interviewed me before they gave me (Approval in Principle) and after that i needed to update my personal information(work, study....) , Medical exam , RCMP finger prints ... and wait..............
until everything is finalized then i will be asked for landing appointment (hopefully) and will get me PR card in mail in 30 days
so u see to become a Permanet Residant there are 2 steps:
1 (Approval in Principle)
2 (in order to get to step 2 u need to pass step 1)... medical , back ground , criminal checks...
i hope this info was helpfull
good luck and hang in there.

Quebec (in reply to: Time line for Perm. Resid. within Canada?HELP)
thanks for your answer its really clear , but if you apply in quebec the federal send a copy of application to the provincial immigration ministery to give a decision , they send back the decision to the federal after that the federal calls you to the interview , its not an obligation to the federal to follow the decision of quebec but most of time they follow cause the quebec has the responsability of selection all categories of immigrant ...if i want to make it short here in quebec we have two steps but it doesn t mean that its harder , lawyers sad that the quebec gives the priority to french talker applicants ...thanks
