Begin your search at monster.ca or any other large job search website. You can also check out job listings for local school districts online if you have some ideas of where you would like to settle.

You will very likely have to acquire Canadian credentials if you want to teach in Canada. US education is not always transferable. As in the States, teaching requirements are left to the provinces so you´ll want to do your research.

Hope this helps.

At the risk of sounding arrogant, may I suggest to the writer that a good background in English might help her search. Nanmes of countries are always capitalized. (...my family to canada...) Names of languages are always capitalized ("Are english teaching jobs..."")I apologize to you in advance if I have insulted you; but if you submit a letter of application for a teaching position and you have such glaring errors, you will not be hired.

Mr Arragont native speaker Peter in addition to your arragont comments let me comment on your English, (Nanmes )should be spelled as names....People no matter they are native speakers or not, may make many mistakes, and that person is not writing a job application letter here, and is not applying for a job at your school (for arragonts ) ..Did you get the overall message? Yes? or No ? If you have no suggestion shut up ...

Dine, English language teaching jobs are the worst paid jobs in English speaking countries unless you work for a college or university, and since there are many people (who can do the same job) in Canada with your qualification or experience, , better look for other opportunities abroad.....If you are applying for immigration and hoping to get better jobs in Canada, simply forget about it.... Better work abroad, such ESL jobs abroad are better paid, and benefits (return ticket, housing, etc.) are much better than Canada. For instance, no school offers free housing for their ESL staff in Canada...The hourly payment changes from school to school... Most ESL schools in Canada offer between 13-20 dollars an hour which is just a joke for a person with an MA... Better look for a job in the Middle East, or South Korea or Japan...

I am afraid "Yahoo" (fascinating name, I must say) does not know what he or she is talking about. If you are a certified teacher in the province of Ontario, that is to say that you are a qualified teacher and a member of the College of Teachers, your remuneration would be much higher than the paltry 13-20 CAD Yahoo suggests. The amount of money you are paid depends on the board´s contract with its teachers. This is called a grid. Your place on the grid is determined by the number of years of "recognized" education, plus the number of years of "recognized" teaching experience. May I suggest, if you plan to teach at the high school level, that you get in touch with the OSSTF (Ontario Secondary School Federation). They are located at 60 Mobile Drive in Toronto. If you are not planning on moving to Ontario; I am sure other provinces have similar federations and regulating bodies. You would be better off contacting the regulating authorities, that way, you would be getting your information from the horse´s mouth, as opposed to the horse´s ..well, anyway you get my point.Good luck!

I´m afraid YAHOO is correct. Teaching position in the public school system is hard to get, even for people who are born, raised and graduated from a local university. It´s good union wage, pension, stability (hard to fire no matter how horrible and outdated they are), and made worst when mandatory retirement is lifted. Many of our own graduates are working overseas, in the States, Japan, Korea or Thailand, not here. Can´t wait forever when they have student loan debts. Research the market more before you make your move. Look at maybe private school system, don´t get much perks as the public system, but a good stepping stone.

Public schools have english teachers (union contracts, college of teachers, accreditation required etc) and unfortunately, english teachers are a dime a dozen right now. Starting wages (regardless of your work experience) can be a little lean. Most teachers refrain from moving districts simply because they might risk forfeiting their tenure. In some cases, one province will not recognize the others certification and may require additional courses.

If you have accredited ESL training... your chances for employment go up.

However, most foreign trained english teachers are unwilling to go through the annoying process of getting licenced as teachers in the province of their choice. Instead, they all flock to the privately run ESL schools that live off foreign students who want to learn english or use it as a back door into Canada in some way.

Those positions are poorly regulated and regardless of how skilled you were back home... the pay is lousy.

based on your writing skills you would be very hard pressed to find work as a teacher and you would also be required to take teacher training before you would be certified.

Your only hope MIGHT be a language school for foreigners where the pay is terrible.
