Subject: UK CITIZEN . . PR STATUS HOW BLOODY LONG ?
I applied in February 2009 to get Permanent Residence status in Vancouver with my Canadian girlfriend. We have had our relationship approved . . and my application is in . . I have one police warning from 2002 and it has now held up my application . . I am a hospitality professional and wanted to work at the winter olympics . . now that looks to be at a loss ! I applied for my PR from London UK, and wonder how much longer it is going to be . . every piece of paper we send in takes 12 weeks to process and get a reply from . . I am still a customer and I am still paying money for all these processes . . is that ever considered ? How much longer do you think i´m going to have to wait to get some sort of response or decision either way . . IT HAS NOW BEEN 8 MONTHS . . I AM A COMMONWEALTH CITIZEN !

Number 1, the fact that you are a commonwealth citizen means jackall when it comes down to immigration. Sad but true.

2- It will take another 6 - 12 months at least.

3- You are not a customer, what do you think immigration is a resturant where you order a PR to go?
You are paying a fee to assess your application and you have to wait in line like everyone else.

How long? If my experience in with the PR application of my spouse (an American) it took over two years of original application (and the intervention of our Minister of Parliament) to get any response and I am filing an appeal.

We did it as an outland family class application. You filed from within Canada (it appears) but did not state what type of application.

Since family class is suppose to be the most expedient, I would suggest that you not count on the Olympics this year. And immigration does, perhaps on paper, favor Commonwealth and American applications but the expression ´means jackall´ is unfortunately fitting.

Tgchi & Dan,

One thing I have noticed is that the processing times changes depending on the office who is processing the application. For what I have read, it seems like Dan is applying from England and he is not yet in Vancouver.

Some of these applications may take anywhere between 6 months to 2 years as you have experienced.

Things that usually delay applications are previous criminal offences and when the applicant has been living in another country (ies) for more than 6 months, because CIC would have to do a full blown backgroud check in every single country where the applicant has lived in.

Cheers,

Bill

why are you not applying for a work permit? get a job offer! you are right... you are almost out of time. Personally, I am guessing you are past the Olympic window by the time you find an offer, permit and get yourself here.

The advance teams are already starting to arrive.

WORK PERMIT (in reply to: UK CITIZEN . . PR STATUS HOW BLOODY LONG ?)
I´m not applying for a work permit because with PR status comes the right to work in Canada and I want to settle in this country with my Canadian girlfriend because the UK is a sesspool where we refuse to bring up children.

Why is the UK a sesspool? I´ve been there many times and loved it (altho as a tourist). I´d be interesting in your experiences and observations in reaching this opinion. (now that I´ve taken the last thread slot!)
