Hello,
I am a US Citizen with a Mexican partner and we´ve been together for three years. Unfortunately he was illegal in the US and so are unable to prove living together for that long. We now live in Mexico and are looking into a Canada move.
I am an RN so am a skilled worker and would like to sponsor him on my application as a conjugal partner/common law (which one?). The problem is now Canada requires Mexican citizens to have a visa to go there. We are jointly now on a lease in a place in Mexico and will be here for a year. Will that suffice? The other thought I had was that he could apply for a visa to Canada and if he gets one, we can go, get married there and then I can do the application. But we´d have to leave Canada right? Or we could get married in another country that has full legalized gay marriage like the Netherlands, and then I can apply.
I feel this is so complicated but maybe it´s not. My partner is not a skilled worker and would have to rely on me. I hope I have been clear on my situation. Thanks!!

if he HAS lived with you for a year (and you can prove it)- common law. include him as your partner on your Skilled Worker app - very straight forward. They will likely want some sort of additional proof that your relationship is genuine and enduring (that he is not using you to gain entry into Canada). I am sure given your current circumstances, that should not be a serious hurdle to overcome.
Conjugal applications are rarely approved.
Forget all the other stuff you are contemplating. you are making things too complicated for yourself.
Fill out your app... make sure you do it carefully, send it off and go snooze on the beach while CIC does its thing.
