Subject: My son 18 going to college and Im a Skilled Worker
I just became a Skilled Worker with a two year status this week. I plan to marry a Canadian within the year but I have to finish my final divorce in the states first. I have been seperated over a year.My son is graduating from high school here in 4 months and wants to attend college here and continue living with me while he goes to schoolas my dependant. We have lived here 4 months on a visitor visa until I got my work permit. Can he go to school as a landed immigrant/resident or does he have to pay tuition as a foreign student.

If you got no PR per se, you are NOT a landed immigrant and hence, he needs to pay international tuition! On the other hand, he will pay outa state tuition in the US since he graduated from Canada! Not a pretty situation if you are not drawing a lot of money! Can he get scholarships? Don´t anyone I told ya this (I am conspiring Yank): let him quietly walk into a local university, turn in his high school diploma and play like he is local (if he got SIN no and such!). I know one Libian kid duped American system by graduating from a local school. By then his parents were thrown out of the US. The kid got stuck in the US. He rented a room in my house; I told him to just shut up and behave like he is local (he spoke without accent and all that). They found out he was international when he was in his last semester! By the time, they pulled their gears, he got his degree and was a 1000 miles away! At another school on a graduate scholarship! This kid was eventually thrown out by the US INS but by the time they got to it, he became a Ph.D! Now he works in Libia... Go figure that one out!
