Newfoundland?

Subject: Newfoundland?
I was offered a job placement in Newfoundland. The salary is very high, and much higher than the same offer with placement in a big city like as Vancouver, BC.

I am in a big dilemma. The salary for the placement in NL is very tempting but NL seems not to be a good place to live in and raise kids.

What do you do if you were in my situation when you find yourself between a job offer in a place like NL with a very very high payment and same job offer in big places in BC or ON with a payment half of what is paid in NL´s offer ?

My suggestion would be to think about what "quality of life" means to you and your family. Be honest with yourself. Is it feeling financially secure? Does it include easy travel opportunities or will you feel isolated on an island? Do you need the availability of shopping or will limited supplies be fine for your needs? Are you looking for challenging schools for the kids or many extracurricular activities or are you okay with fewer resources? Can you enjoy tough weather and will the beautiful scenery enhance your daily lives? Do you enjoy small communities where literally everyone knows each other (for generations back), and if so, are you prepared to be a "come from away"? Do you assimilate easily into new cultures?

Plenty of people think that Newfoundland is a very good place to live and raise their families; the question is: do YOU?

Try not to get caught up in the beautiful travel brochures; try to get some understanding of the every day challenges and delights that you will face if you relocate there.

Good luck.

Dear Wannabe

Just want to commend you on your very thoughtful and balanced comments about immigrating to NL. Very good advice, indeed!

Even at half or a third of the pay, I am sure you will enjoy life to the fullest in BC. Please go to BC and leave NL be! Well that is my advice anyways.

I spent alot of time in Nfld, great people, and very proud long history.

They won´t take too kindly of someone living there just to make a quick dime off them.

Outsiders aren´t welcome if they are not willing to assimiliate and as you say, you are just in it for the money.

Where do you come from?,.... and why is there a very high paying position in Nfld that a new university grad or a Canadian trained professional out there cannot fill? That´s what I´d like to know. We have a 20 percent unemployment level there, why is there a need to fill a position externally?, ...and from another country of all places....jeesh.. disgusting.!

I´d say go to BC, it is completely overun already with immigration. One more won´t hurt.

Chad,

Have visited or stayed in any other country?
Do you know what is technological advancement?
There are many countries which are saturated with infrastructure. There are many trained and experienced professionals outside north america.

If you know or heard about sicence and technology then please try to find the global position of Canada in that field. Then speak something.

Ah...from your previous posts what i have concluded that these Theme are beyond your gray cells. You are right, why they are paying him a lot, while there are still people with two legs, two hands, one mouth like you...! that also surprises me!

I am well-schooled in technology son, thanks for your weak input .

I have also been all over the world, hence why my opinions have substance and relevance from experience.

What is this "My Canada " bullshit anyways? Gray cells, lol.

Uncle Chad,

I always respect people who respect others, I want to see u in future on that list...DONE!

You understood what I mean!
Gray cells and bull shits are totally opposite things. gray cells are inside the brain.

Anyway, your assumption about the most of the immigrants could be right. But there are also many people who already have a lot of expertise gained and looking whether they can fit in Canada or not. What I mean is Canada should be a destination for high tech people also, not only a popular mass immigration destination for those who in any cost want to escape their obsessed homeland.
