My name is Russell Bilyk. I am Canadian certified immigration consultant, member of CSIC & FCMI, with over 14 years of experience in immigration field. hi to all, i have a problem whith my marital status. Im on my second step of processing. My problem is, I stated single in my application, im confused because since 2002, I dont know where is my husband. Im in a common law relationship and i inluded him in my application. Do I need to change my SURNAME? my deadline is on January 15 2010. Please help.. What is civil Status discrepancy means and its explanation means..

I think you might want to withdraw your application and try this again. You are not single if you included your commonlaw partner and you are not single if there is a missing husband. In fact, you cannot include your common law partner without proof that the first marriage is disolved.

Your surname is the least of your concerns. Righ now, you are misrepresenting your status to CIC and that is enough to have your application tossed out.
