Subject: 3-yr requirement citizenship while outside Canada

I am not happy with my life here in Canada and therefore, I have decided to leave the country and go back. However, I might get married from a Canadian relative who agrees to go back with me.

I am a PR and stayed in Canada for 2 years.

My question is:

Can I still maintain my PR and fulfill the 3-yr residency citizenship requirement (one year left, in my case) while staying outside Canada with a Canadian citizen spouse?

I appreciate your help.

I think you still have to reside in Canada for the third year. Wait for the experts.I think the Canadian spouse will maintain your PR but will not take you to citizenship without residing in Canada. May be I am wrong.

To maintain your Permanent Resident status, you have to show physical presence in Canada for 2 out of last 5 years.
To be eligible to apply for Citizenship, you have to show 3 out of 4 years of physical presence in Canada.

excuse me...why do you want citizenship in a country you are not happy with?

And getting married to a Canadian relative? really!
