Subject: question regarding landing and PR card
  Hi All,
Does any one know what the validity of COPR is? I mean after getting stamp in passport, how much time I have before landing in Canada take place.

I intend to land in Canada In May 2010 with my wife and two sons. Probably, the Immigration officer may ask how much fund we are carrying and any local address to send our PR cards. Shortly, I have to leave Canada in June 2010 to fulfill my contractual work which ends at December 2010. However, my family will remain In Canada.
I will appreciate if anyone can advise me on the following:
1) What is the duration to collect my PR card?
2) If my stay is 3 weeks, it is possible for my wife to collect on my behalf.

thanks

1- It takes about 6 weeks to receive your PR after landing.
2- Your wife doesn´t have to collect your card. If you have a Canadian address that you can provide when you land, the Maple Leave Cards will be mailed.

Hi,

Thank for your sharing.

Where do I need to go to apply for Social Insurance Number (any given office address in BC)? Can I apply for it as I mentioned I will be leaving in a 3 1/2 week´s time and will move back to Canada towards end of the year?

Based on other personal experience, it may take 30 days for newcomers to get their PR, for others - 80 days. Is it true?

IF it takes more than 3 weeks, it is okay for my spouse to courier the PR card for my next re-entry in December 2010. Hope to get some advice from the above questions.

thanks

Here are the links for your SIN Card.

Yes, your wife can courier your PR card to you - remember, courier, never use regular mail.

Hi,

About SIN Card and PR

I think the best way should be to follow the instructions from CPC Mississauga. It also be usefull to contact the local Canadian Ambassy where you live now, before your departure to Canada. They are very cooperative most times.
( speaking to my own experience in Germany )

So good luck !

Hi DocD
Refer to your answer: Your wife doesn´t have to collect your card. If you have a Canadian address that you can provide when you land, the Maple Leave Cards will be mailed to designated address.

Can this designated address be a rental apartment or a permanent apartment? Sorry for asking this because I am not familiar with the whole process.

thanks

Hi anca,

Sorry for asking a different question. You were from Germany, thats why I wanted to ask a question to clear my confusion.

Is Canada better to live than Germany or western Europe. Provided that you have permanent resident status in Germany and you also have PR from Canada, which one do you prefer? I would appreciate to hear your experience.
Thanks in advance!
