Subject: Expired Medicals: HELP!
My husband is a Canadian, and I am from the US. We did the Sponsorship for PR, and all has been good, except we were delayed a bit and our medicals expired for myself and my 2 kids. My husband and I are having financial difficulties right now and can´t afford the medicals right now, but it is the last step. I am worried that they will cancel my PR application?? I checked the site this morning and it said Decision Made. It has read In Progress since I started. So what can I do? I have tried to get throught to the call center and have had no luck whatsoever. Also, my husband wants to declare bankruptcy now. Can he do that? He was approved for the sponsorship, but is he able to now?? Thanks!!

When you mean the "medicals expired" do you mean that the time line to do your medicals expired? or do you mean that you already did your medicals and a year passed?

I won´t even think about declaring bankruptcy at this point in time.

Already did meds, year passed...now have to do them again.
I agree on the bankruptcy..bad idea! (:
Trying to figure out also, I provided passport cards and they said that wasn´t good enough?? I have to get an actual passport book now...so that is an extra amount of cash that we don´t have. I don´t know what to do. I am going crazy with all of this!!

Yes, passport cards are for border crossing only. In order to stamp your immigrant visa an actual passport is required (blue book).

If a year passed there is a high possibility that the CIC officer will request the medicals again for all family the members included in the application except your husband.

Two suggestions:

1- Do not attempt to cross the border until you have your visas. In your current situation there is a VERY high possibility that you will be refused entry into Canada.
Trust me on that one.

2- Bankruptcy and immigration don´t go well together.

Thank you. I called the call center and asked them if I could use a passport card rather than the book and they told me yes, which is why I got that instead. That is why I am so confused. Now they are telling me, no.
Thanks again for all of ur help! I don´t understand why the cost of the medicals are so high. When I could go to a walk in clinic and pay $40 and receive the exact same exam. ?? But, since it is immigration I have to pay $150? It is really upsetting to myself and my husband.
