Subject: Need information regarding Port of landing
We recently got immigration visa (PR) for Canada; we have to come to Canada for PR card before jun 2010.

We have mention “Where do you intend to live in Canada?” in the application form is Mississauga, Ontario, CA.

Right now we don’t have any job so, we have some friend in Vancouver, and can we go to him? Which not to go to Mississauga, Ontario, CA.

We have mention in application that ““Where do you intend to live in Canada - Mississauga, Ontario ” so we have to first go to Mississauga, Ontario then apply for PR card there only?
Or we can apply for PR card at any place?

Please guide us and tell us in detail what is procedure once we will received one time immigration visa for Canada,
1. Where to apply for PR card? Can we apply at airport itself?
2. Can we give india address to send PR card? Because we have some family problem so we are planning to go to Canada after 8-9 months but immigration visa will expired in Jun 2010. So we want to come to Canada for 2-3 days apply for PR and comeback to India.
Can we give india address to send PR card.

Thanks,
Arti Patwa

You can land and live in any place you like, regardless what appears on the application. You can write, for example, ON but land and live in BC.

1. unless you are a provincial nominee, you can live anywhere in Canada. (unless you want to live in Quebec, where you will require a CAQ to live.) you don´t apply for a PR card. when you get your CPR processed by an immigration officer, that is the process for getting your PR card. you can get your CPR processed at any port of entry, be it at Pearson or at Vancouver.
2. no, you have to give a canadian address, and it has to be a residence. this is because the PR cards are sent by registered mail with Canada Post. if you have friends in Vancouver, you can have them sent there. HOWEVER YOUR FRIENDS CANNOT SEND THE PR CARDS IN THE MAIL TO YOU IN INDIA. if canada post discovers them, they will be seized. when you return to canada after landing, you can easily apply for a PR visa. all they need to do is check in the computer that you are indeed a landed permanent resident and they will issue it.

Hi Aarti,

Getting PR card is almost 6-8 weeks but due to back log it can be more. you have to apply at airport no other choice.

you have to give canadian address for getting your PR CARD as DR mentioned you or anyone cant post it or courier it outside canada. one thing you can do it if someone can bring that with them while coming to India they can bring that to India for you.

Count for the meter of 30$ minimum per day for the rent itself on your pocket and then you need food and transportation etc...

Best Luck,
N

PR Card (in reply to: Need information regarding Port of landing)
From the above points i understood that there is only one way to apply (first time) for PR card and that is at the airport. I will be going to toronto for few weeks - first time after getting the immigrant visa. I would like to know following:
1) is there any urgent processing option available for PR card?
2) would there be any further inquery / interview to enable the authority to issue or its just apply and receive activity?

Would appreciate your assistance
Thanks
