Subject: Returning home for a 10 day visit
  Hi,
I am from England and have applied for sponser with my girlfriend (within Canada). I have legal status and am awaiting the result of our common-law application.
I would like to visit my family in England for 10 days as I havent seen them for over a year now. I have called immigration and although they say the airport immigration cannot guarantee I will be allowed to re-enter Canada, they see no reason, as long as im healthy, have a valid passport, can prove I have applied and am waiting on a reply to our sponser apps that I should have no problem returning.
I also heard that I cannot leave the country whilst the application goes through.
Going home isnt essential and I dont want to risk anything but id love to know the ins and outs of this, can I go?
Thankyou

Not really.
When you are entering Canada, you are seeking admission as a turist / visitor and you will be allowed in as long as you satisfy the officer that you are going to leave Canada at the end of your visit.
Let me repeat that ..you are GOING TO LEAVE CANADA at the end of your visit.

If the officer feels that you are not going to leave Canada at the end of your visit, she/he mmay refuse your entry and then your application can go south. Specially when you are doing an inland.

There is no reason to believe that if your application for PR is denied (the sponsorship is just one little part of it)you will leave Canada. In all appearances your intentions are to stay in the country yet you are seeking admission as a visitor.

You should have applied from outside of Canada and I would HIGHLY recommend you not to leave the country until you become a PR.

Did you apply for a work permit at the same time?

Make sure you have some documentaion from CIC before you leave.
