Subject: Trying to assist a Vietnamese to Canada
  Good morning,

For the last year and a bit I have been in contact with a Vietnamese woman. Recently I traveled to Vietnam and spent two months with her.

Long story short, I would like to bring her over to Canada. I don´t claim to be any form of the word wealthy; so that is my first snag I suppose.

Could someone supply me with any information I could use to help aid me in bringing her over?

And before you ask; neither of us plan on marrying for some time yet. Eventually; but not now.

Without there being a marriage or a commonlaw relationship of 1 year there is no sponsorship opportunity available to you. If and when that happens, your income is irrelevant to qualify as a sponsor. However, you would be signing an undertaking with the government that you would be economically responsible for her for 3 years regardless of whether the relationship survives or not.

If there is a way for her to come on her own merits on a work permit or as a skilled worker, that is another consideration.

In the mean time, buy a webcam and some plane tickets.

she may qualify to come as a visitor but she will need to show significant ties to Vietnam - a home, a job, bank accounts etc. A formal invitation would be required but it cannot hint that there is a romantic relationship awaiting her in Canada. CIC will decide she has no intentions of going home after her 6 month maximum visit and deny the visa.

If a visitor visa is issued, she would not be allowed to work in Canada.

Alright... It seems to be as I had feared..

She is also exploring the option of studying abroad, but again with our combine lack of funds... It might be awhile yet.

Thanks for sharing what you knew with me.

this confirms my own experience (in reply to: Trying to assist a Vietnamese to Canada)
Hello Mike,
Yes, you have stated your dilema. I have already experienced this. The CIC website is very friendly but not to Vietnamese women who want to visit Canada. Marriage seems to be the only option....and that´s a big decision worth taking time to consider.
